It's got to be tough when you put tons of time and effort into a pitch or script that never takes off, but director Vincenzo Natali (Hannibal, Splice) isn't letting his prep work for Neuromancer, It, Predator or Swamp Thing go completely to waste. Even though none of the movies were made, Natali opted to share some material on Twitter.
Neuromancer
I remember talking to Natali about this one back in 2010 when Splice came out. There was a number of failed attempts to get the book-to-film adaptation off the ground, but it seemed like Natali would finally be the guy to make it happen, especially when pre-production and a first quarter 2012 start date were announced. Clearly that never happened, but it's still nice to see what Natali had brewing. Obviously there's no judging a screenplay based on a mere four pages, but for what it's worth, it seems Natali did some solid work.
It
Apparently Natali also wanted to make a new It movie and came up with some especially vicious Pennywise designs with Amro Attia. Obviously this one didn't work out for him either, but at least he eventually managed to land a Stephen King adaptation. It was recently announced that Natali is penning a big screen rendition of In the Tall Grass, a story King co-wrote with his son Joe Hill.
Predator
All of this artwork for Natali's failed Predator pitch is strong stuff, but how about that last image from Attia? I wouldn't mind hanging that up on a wall somewhere.
Swamp Thing
Last up we've got Natali's attempt to remake Swamp Thing. This was a pretty hot topic back when Splice came out. Producer Joel Silver was working on it and he also served as an executive producer on Splice, so it's no surprise that Natali made an attempt at penning the Swamp Thing remake.
What do you think of Natali's prep work? Do you wish any of these projects had taken off?
