Terrence Malick has already won 2016. Knight of Cups, his sublime, tremendously personal take on the life of a Hollywood hustler, is easily the best movie that's been released thus far this year. He's prepping another film, Weightless, which takes place in the Austin, Texas music scene, for release as well but before that, we'll see his long-gestating vision of the universe, Voyage of Time, which will see release this October. The film, which will be released in a theatrical cut, named Voyage of Time: Life's Journey, and an abbreviated IMAX experience. Today, two clips from the former version were released, which you can take a look at below. Considering the clear lack of anything resembling a familiar narrative, the clips work not unlike short trailers for Malick's latest opus, and as much as the images are stunning, at this point, this movie no longer needs to sell me on the idea of spending money on a ticket to the next feature by Terrence freaking Malick.

Here's the two new clips for Voyage of Time: Life's Journey:

Here's the official synopsis for Voyage of Time:

Terrence Malick's first documentary has been described by the director himself as "one of my greatest dreams". It is a collage film (like Koyaanisqatsi by Godfrey Reggio) that intends to illustrate the birth and death of an undiscovered universe. A film that promises to be highly experimental and perhaps Malick's most ambitious film. The story of the universe itself, with powerful images, from the Big Bang to the Mesozoic era and through the present and beyond, based on a project conceived decades ago. The film was made in two versions, a long one for theatres with Cate Blanchett as the narrator, and a 40' version for Imax with Brad Pitt as the narrator.
