After watching everyone wander around The Farm for most of Season 2, fans of The Walking Dead have been eagerly anticipating the third season's teased locale of The Prison - something readers of the comic series know is a highly anticipated setting, and for good reason. The series returns to AMC in October, and the cast should be looking more distressed than usual on screen since during their current filming schedule Georgia has reached the most extreme temperatures in its history (Last year, cast and crew members only had fire ants, mosquitoes and ticks to battle - oh the glamour of film!). For the new pictures from the frying-hot set and more about The Prison itself (possible spoilers), hit the jump. Our Walking Dead heroes may be excited to have found a fortified shelter, but they'll have to get rid of its current undead inhabitants first. Finally, lots of zombies and excitement!walking-dead-season-3-prisonwalking-dead-season-3-prison-1Speaking to EW, showrunner Glen Mazzara suggests that the series' take on The Prison may differ somewhat from that of the comic:

“I think our crew has done a great job. It’s a huge sense of scale and magnitude I haven’t seen on any other show as far as construction. What’s important to us is the prison itself is now a character in the show. It’s a haunted house, it’s scary, it’s frightening, and there are parts of the prison that are always terrifying, that are always inaccessible to our group. It’s not necessarily the blessing that the prison in the comic book turned out to be.”

Regardless, from these pictures it looks like it's going to be pretty badass. For more on Mazzara's thoughts on the upcoming season, check out our piece from Friday.
