As reported by TheOneRing.net and The Noldor BlogThe Hobbit is officially accepting applications for actors and actresses wishing to be in the two part movie.  While I’m sure you want to be in the film, before you break out the LOTR-themed casting videos and headshot that you had prepared for just such an occasion, there are a few guidelines of which you should be aware.  Hit the jump for more:

– You must apply by physical mail.

– You need to include a casting video, headshot and full-body shot (both head on and profile).

– It is very important that you include a return address so, in the event that the casting director thinks you would make a great goblin, you can be sent the next application.

– Don’t bother saying what part you’d be perfect for.  If you get the gig, they’ll decide for you.

– Finally, according to New Zealand law, local people must be hired before overseas fanboys and girls.  In other words you need to have a NZ tax number and be able to legally work in the country if you are going to apply.   Also, you must be available for the entire shoot.

So if you meet the requirements….

PO Box 15104

Guess it is time to start working on that working-visa application.  For more on when The Hobbit might be filming, watch Steve’s interview with Peter Jackson.

lol ya moving to new zealand might help. also having a big time agency/agent might also help u get into auditions. but don’t get ur hopes up!!! cuz if u do get casted……..its might just be a very small role.

Um, yeah garfieldlucy, RTFA: it’s for EXTRAS casting. Meaning background and crowdshots, and IF YOU ARE LUCKY the possibility of being a featured extra which may land you a small bit part in another major motion picture in the future. As for the leads, they’ve most likely already have been cast. So expect a small to nothing role.

What I wanna know is if I’m from the states and I apply and get selected, will they fly me out there to film?

If not for my intensive university studies, I’d definitely apply. I love Middle-Earth.

if you get a part as an extra, they will not pay to fly you there. In fact, it is very unlikely that anyone outside NZ will be an extra. Productions always use locals for that…that's why they're called “extras”. It simply makes no sense for production companies to pay big bucks to have out of towners flown to the location and put up in accommodations. The costs would be astronomical:)

My partners cousin is an actor who starred as an extra in King Arthur. The company paid for his travel, they paid his father for bringing him and then they paid for the acting.. He was only in the film for a few seconds – he had no big role and didn’t even speak.. So you never know. If they want you enough, they might?

yeah it´s very unlikely, they cast outside NZ. I sent an email to the casting director in charge of the hobbit, asking if it was possible to audition via video (crazy i know), she said no. Then sent one last email asking if, nevertheless could audition for future projects, and she was downright rude, saying how unprofessional it is to contact CD, can´t cast people far away etc.. I think it´s funny because alot of actors come from the US or other countries, but because they have bigger agencies and bigger names they get the roles. It´s unfair, and stupid.

      Hello Evoe,

      I`m writing from Germany.
I want to ask you if Evoe is your firstname or lastname or if it is a phantasyname.
Do you know if the name Evoe exists in New Zealand. We want to give that name to our daugther but the departement denies it.

Can anyone give us some information about the name “evoe”

      Thank You
      Ulrike

So stoked The Hobbit has just been approved to film in NZ!!!! After much anxiety and frustration with the equity drama’s, i think our reckless actors union should accept their fault, step down and make way for alternative and loyal NZ talent who would gladly work on the film for free (such as myself and kids who moved home from overseas just to be part of Sir Jackson’s magic).

    • Chelsea @

Well sunny, you’re lucky that your parents would let youmove to be in it. I’m thirteen and my parents have no intention to move. I would do anything to get into the hobbit, ANYTHING!!! I live in Canada and wish that I didn’t, in fact I’m saving up all of my money to go to NZ, whether my parents like it or not. I’m going to be in the film; trust me, I’ll find a way, no matter what it takes.

  13. Salogel @

    Hi,
I’m 13 and would want nothing more in the world then to be in the hobbit, it has been my dream every night since I saw the Lord of the Rings. I have a very light skin tone, long blond hair, my eyes are blue and my height is 5 foot 2.5”. I’m too tall to be a hobbit, but what about an elf? I can ride a horse and I also know how to fire a bow. I would dearly love to be an elven rider, but anything will do.

  14. Paul Parnell @

Did anyone get the Casting Directors Email?
It’s cast by Hubbard Casting and they have a facebook group.
I have been unable to find any emails though.
    Can anyone help?

  15. Sarah Farrell @
