WARCRAFT Sets Ben Foster, Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Toby Kebbell, and Rob Kazinsky; Dominic Cooper in Final Negotiations

     December 4, 2013

Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures just announced that they’ve closed deals with Ben Foster (3:10 to Yuma), Travis Fimmel (Vikings), Paula Patton (Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol), Toby Kebbell (The Counselor), and Rob Kazinsky (Pacific Rim) for writer-director Duncan Jones’ Warcraft.  Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger) is also in final negotiations to star.  Production is scheduled to begin in Vancouver this coming January.  Warcraft will open March 11, 2016.  Hit the jump for more.

ben-foster-warcraftUnfortunately, no casting details are available at the moment, and the order of the casting announcement is not indicative of the final film’s billing.  News out of BlizzCon 2013 did tell us that the Warcraft film adaptation would tell “the story of Anduin Lothar versus Durotan, Human and Orc heroes from the original real-time strategy games.”  Your guess is as good as mine as for who will be taking on which role when the film kicks into gear.

Foster can next be seen in Peter Berg’s Lone Survivor opposite Mark Wahlberg, and is currently filming Stephen Frears’ untitled Lance Armstrong picture in the lead role.  Fimmel has been in the mix for some time, as has Patton, who was recently seen on screen in both Baggage Claim and 2 Guns.  Kebbell will next star in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in the role of Koba the ape.  Cooper will take to the screen in a number of films, including Need for Speed, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Universal’s Dracula Untold, directed by Gary Shore and starring Luke Evans in the lead.

Ben Foster and Toby Kebbell are two of the most underrated actors working today, so I’m glad they’re on board. Jones seems to have good casting abilities, just wonder who everyone is playing? I’ve never played Warcraft, I’m just excited as hell from what I’ve seen of the concept art and the fact Duncan Jones is directing.

so does that confirm that colin farrell will NOT be part of the cast?

Glad for Kazinsky. First noticed him when he acted circles around the rest of the cast of True Blood and of course in Pacific Rim, where he played king douche. Hope this gets him higher up in Hollywood, with an eventual shot at being the star of a film/franchise.

I’m surprised as hell to see him in this, I’m from the UK so first seen him in Eastenders (soap opera) and he left a few years ago to become a car mechanic…strange career move to say the least, most people who leave the soap opera scene to “make it big” are usually prone to failure, especially in the UK do they rarely make it. Then I seen him getting mentions from Speilberg and popping up in True Blood and Pac Rim, now this. Good on him

A strange set of actors… But a good cast any ways.

Really, really happy about Foster. Hoping this is finally the film that will give him the recognition that he deserves. The man is an incredible actor and a very underrated one at that.

    • Norrtron

Man I’m probably going to get flamed for this, but he reminds me of Edward Norton, and I’m not a huge Norton fan. Someone who works incredibly hard at their craft and gives every performance his all, but you can “see” him acting.

TOTALLY agree. And Paula Patton is a crazy nutjob hack as well. Fimmel overacts like crazy as well. This is going to be just abysmal. Sad, because I loved Moon.
