[Update: Universal has pulled the trailer from YouTube, so we’ve swapped it out with the latest TV spot instead.]
When it comes to Warcraft, the upcoming adaptation of the hugely popular computer game, I’m choosing to look more at the talent involved than at the not-so-great history of video-game adaptations, which seems to be gearing up for a second wave with this and Assassin’s Creed and a few more that escape me at the moment. This will be Duncan Jones‘ third film, and his first two works, Moon and Source Code, stand as two of the more inventive, cohesive, and quietly stylish science fiction films of the last decade. He’s directing a cast that includes Dominic Cooper, Ben Foster, Paula Patton, Toby Kebbell, Robert Kazinsky, and the great Clancy Brown, all of whom have proven themselves to be invaluable in a variety of supporting roles; Brown recently appeared in Daredevil Season 2, and Cooper will soon be seen as the titular character in AMC’s Preacher.
So there’s every reason to believe that this will turn out better than Super Mario Bros., and from the looks of the new international trailer, which you can take a look at below, this will at least be a bit more entertaining and tonally coherent than that mess. We’ll see what’s what come June 10th, when the movie sees release in theaters nationwide.
