Universal and Legendary have released the first Warcraft poster. The upcoming film, directed by Duncan Jones (Moon), is based off the popular video game series, is about humans and orcs warring over the magical land of Azeroth. This poster features the two leaders of both sides: Anduin Lothar (Travis Fimmel), “the lead protagonist for the Alliance, Lothar is a war hero who has sacrificed everything to keep the people of Azeroth safe,” and Durotan (Toby Kebbel) “the lead protagonist for the Horde, Durotan is the noble Chieftain of the Frostwolf Clan, battling to save his people and his family from extinction.”
Jones has said in the past that he wants part of the film’s appeal to be that—much like the game—you can root for either side, and it’s not a clear division of “good guys” and “bad guys”. Both have a valid point of view (prepare yourself for think pieces since Captain America: Civil War probably takes a similarly non-biased approach to its central conflict), but it will be interesting to see if Jones’ slightly tips his hand for either side (if he does, I’m betting it will be for the Horde; he seems like a Horde guy).
Check out the Warcraft poster below, and come back on Friday to see the new trailer. The film opens June 10, 2016, and also stars Paula Patton, Rob Kazinsky, Ben Foster, Daniel Wu, and Clancy Brown.
