Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to turn the manga (Japanese comic) Bleach into a movie.  Peter Segal (Get Smart) is in negotiations to produce, though not direct.  For those who know absolutely nothing about the manga, I’ll let Heat Vision handle the description:

The story centers on a 15-year-old boy who has the ability to see ghosts and meets a female Soul Reaper, a member of an order that escorts the souls of the dead. A fight with an evil spirit causes the Reaper to transfer all her power to the boy, leaving her stranded in the human world and the boy taking over her job as a fighter of evil.

Does he take over her job as a fighter of evil because she’s so bad at it she had to giver her powers to a 15-year-old boy?  The books, published in weekly installments in Japan since 2001, have already been adapted into an anime that airs in Japan with the English version on Cartoon Network and Canada’s YTV.  Warner Bros. is also currently in development of the manga Akira.

  1. Lets hope both of those don't suck as bad as Dragonball did. Bleach is a lame anime though so it probably will suck, looking forward to Akira and Cowboy Bebop (just please don't let Keanu Reeves be Spike, he would ruin Spike).

  2. how can anyone look forward to Akira and/or Cowboy Bebop adaptations..? there is no way in hell they would *get it right* — they just can't. no matter who's involved. of course, having Keanu Soulless Reeves involved in Cowboy Bebop can only end up in…………tragedy..

  3. I agree mate. Bleach is an Awesome Anime but I feel that they will ruin this with a movie adaptation.

    AWWWWWWW BOLLOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. I have high hopes for Cowboy Bebop as Shinchiro Watanabe is directly involved. Akira will be good, of this I have no doubt. Bleach doesn't really need to be made into a film, it's pretty repetitive and though i enjoyed the first season it got tiresome after that. The anime adaptation i am most anxious for is Cameron's take on Gunm (Battle Angel Alita).

  5. hmm…I have got to say, I've actually given a thought to how this one will turn out. The cast and voices are probably going to be the hardest. Portrayal of the characters in anime are really the key to the movie. Other than that, hollywood's got it pretty much covered. But how are they EVER going to get Ichigo's hair without it looking fake? Plus, what about most of the captains. Plus the plot…Hollywood really needs to stop this madness about anime and just go ahead and say they REALLY suck at it. I really like Bleach and I dont want to be driven away by an american version.

  7. hahah, it's another live action adaptation of an Anime. They keep trying to pull these out, and they keep flopping. They should leave Japan to make them, and just release it in English with a nice dub from Viz.
