Lionsgate has released a trailer for the upcoming mixed martial arts fighting drama Warrior. Directed by Gavin O’Connor (Miracle) the film stars Tom Hardy (Inception) and Joel Edgerton (Animal Kingdom) as brothers fighting for the mixed martial arts championship. I like the idea of a Rocky story where we follow both fighters into the ring and both their causes are valid (although the trailer makes it look like Edgerton is really the protagonist). Unfortunately, this trailer takes you through almost the entire movie to the point where I’m a little surprised that it doesn’t go ahead and reveal the champion.

Two brothers face the fight of a lifetime – and the wreckage of their broken family – within the brutal, high-stakes world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighting in Lionsgate’s action/drama, WARRIOR.
An ex-Marine haunted by a tragic past, Tommy Riordan returns to his hometown of Pittsburgh and enlists his father, a recovered alcoholic and his former coach, to train him for an MMA tournament awarding the biggest purse in the history of the sport. As Tommy blazes a violent path towards the title prize, his brother, Brendan, a former MMA fighter unable to make ends meet as a public school teacher, returns to the amateur ring to provide for his family. Even though years have passed, recriminations and past betrayals keep Brendan bitterly estranged from both Tommy and his father.
But when Brendan’s unlikely rise as an underdog sets him on a collision course with Tommy, the two brothers must finally confront the forces that tore them apart, all the while waging the most intense, winner-takes-all battle of their lives.

Looks good, but I can’t believe how similar the trailer is to The Fighter! Even down to the onscreen text and title logo!

Sometimes you just need a straight up basic story.
Guy needs money. Decides to fight. Trains. Fights.
Even though Hardy is barely in the trailer he still looks bad ass. Now I’m even more excited for TDKR!
I hope Tom Hardy and Kurt Angle will have an MMA fight in this film.

Jennifer Morrison is amazingly gorgeous. This sensual young woman is indescribably beautiful.
I’m disappointed to see Tom Hardy fall into this basic stuff. I mean it looks decent but it’s clearly stealing The Fighter’s thunder, which means it’ll be a stereotypical feel-good sports movie that does decently at the box office and shows every three months on TNT
This trailer def let me down A bit … It looks like it might be one of those heavy handed sports dramas … That doesn’t really bother me too much but as an MMA fan I hope there not portrayed as glorified street brawlers lol that powerbomb in the cage is something that Never really happens but hey it’s just a trailer I’ll still give it a shot lol
Rampage Jackson slammed somebody in exactly the same way. It was Pride Fighting, but it’s still MMA.
Yea I know about Rampage slammin Ricardo Arona and KO’ing him but that’s rarely seen now… Especially a powerbomb like that he almost pulled it off onForrest and Machida but clearly they were aware of what he was trying to do lol
In fact I wish Rampage would go back to his wrestling style instead of just being content to stand up and bang with people… He’s so one dimensional now lol I love him but it’s dissapointing
