Last August, we ran a story featuring some photos of Kirsten Dunst in Tokyo’s Akihabara shopping district wearing a sailor-suit costume and a blue wig. She was wearing the cosplay costume because she was filming a music video with director McG (Terminator Salvation) and artist Takashi Murakami titled Akihabara Majokko Princess. While we weren’t sure where the video was going to end up, it eventually played at London’s Tate Modern museum as part of the Pop Life: Art In A Material World exhibit. Anyway, the video has finally hit the net and you can check it out after the jump. If you’re a fan of Sailor Moon, Kirsten Dunst, Cartoon boobs, and Tokyo, it’s a must watch.
Thanks to Robert for the heads up on this.

wow. awful.
wow. awful.
And someone handed him the Terminator franchise?
its modern art not your sainted terminator franchise.
Japanese people are messed up, I'm not sure why I'm learning the language lol! I think I liked them better when they were murderous imperialists- now they are just oddly repressed perverts with a sick fascination for western culture.
Kirsten Dunst is still hot though… the random anime boobs seem pointless, unless its meant to show how heathen Japanese people are.
Hey man! take it easy, don’t judge an entire country for something you think like an absolut true. Japan isn’t only Anime, Manga, otakus, perverts, it is beyond that, a great History, Arts, Gastronomy, great people who doesn’t care about massive consumism and many many other things. So the western people are also fascinated by asian culture, does it make us sick? do all American people are messed up because they are amost always in war, hell no!. Do you get the point?
wow. awful.
wow. awful.
Wouldn't say its awful, just uninspired. Is Sailor Moon any good by the way?
IF your into little kid animes, I mean as a kid it was decent I watched it when I was growing up, but its not good the way Akira or Ghost In The Shell or Cowboy Bebop is good, its just amusing if your a child or teenage girl.
wonderful.
of course, it's Murakami, you have to be used to his horrible genius bad taste

japanese people don't “occidental culture” to be fun. they were THAT weird centuries ago with great art and stories. Now, just be happy with the funny pop stuff. You can still find fine e-konte, Nô and so on.
Akira and GitS are TOTALLY different, and not everything can be dark and adult themed like them. Sailor Moon is a great show, along with a lot of older anime that came out in the 80s and 90s. Sure it's made for kids, but it's a Saturday morning cartoon, and isn't meant to be taken as something more than that. Adults can watch it and enjoy it just as much as kids do. Hell, I still watch Super Sentai, because it's good.
About the video though, this is just more playing to the new, teenage anime crowd. Unfortunately, the rest of Japan is seen as the same as Akiba or Shinjuku, and not Kyoto, Sapporo, or Osaka. While I love the pop culture centers of Japan, there's much more to its culture that doesn't get over here to America. I don't see kids lining up for a kabuki performance.
This is why parents hate anime. All they see is the portrayal of it as hentai/porn or more adult themed violent crap. Not as an art form, and even less as a show for their kids. There's a place for everything, but it seems that all we're seeing is the weirder things.
Don't care for the video. Though I like some shots of Kirsten in that outfit.
This song is horrible.
And seriously, how on Earth do you get the Japanese – the most approachable, smile-happy picture takers in the world to look SO unhappy?
You hire Kirsten Dunst, McG – to make a video for THIS SONG.

lol, I think more kids watch anime than cartoon, in fact I know it.
I don't really see how children's shows are really enjoyable for an adult, unless they are either immature or indulging (nostalgic). When I watch any new kid show that I didn't originally see as a kid I am repulsed (for the most part anyways), but I agree anime in the 80's and 90's was amazing, especially compared to the crap anime coming out now.
I think adults hate anime because the popular anime and the anime of this decade is immature perverted craptastic “art” that is made to feed the mass morons of western society, its exactly what its name implies “pop culture,” anime has degraded to the same level as acts like Britney Spears and the Disney Channel. Almost nothing of quality is coming from the entire anime entertainment sector at the moment because everyone is too busy making a profit for cheap, and the only sure fire way to do that is to target youth who hasn't spent enough time on this earth to figure out what “quality” is.
Anime can be an art form as can any media, but not when its used primarily as a vehicle for sales. From what I've read there has been a backlash to the movement of the 00's to degrade anime (imo), and the anime market is suffering now since they put all of their eggs into one basket.
PS: Not everything has to be adult themed, what about Trigun, that is comedic, or Rurouni Kenshin or even Dragonball which was a wonderful anime (not counting Z or any of the crap that came after).
The point is in this decade (and I suppose now the last one), no anime is dark or gritty (though some is very pointless sexual or disturbed), none of it can be taken seriously or logically looked at as a piece of artwork. Not including a few exceptions.
Looks scene queen to me.
