20th Century Fox has released the first trailer and poster for Cameron Crowe’s We Bought a Zoo.  Based on the memoir by Benjamin Mee, the film tells the story of a man who decides to buy and run a zoo with his family following the death of his wife. The cast includes Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson, Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous), Elle Fanning (Somewhere), Thomas Haden Church, J.B. Smoove (Date Night) and John Michael Higgins (Yes Man).

The trailer starts off strong enough but right about the time a Damon voiceover explains “You don’t need any sort of special knowledge to run a zoo, just a lot of heart” it loses me. I’m no expert, but I’d like to think running a zoo does require some sort of special knowledge. On the bright side, the film looks to have plenty of heartwarming moments and Church’s work seems to be as strong as ever. We Bought a Zoo opens December 23.  Check out the trailer and poster after the jump.

This holiday season, acclaimed filmmaker Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous) directs an amazing and true story about a single dad who decides his family needs a fresh start, so he and his two children move to the most unlikely of places: a zoo. With the help of an eclectic staff, and with many misadventures along the way, the family works to return the dilapidated zoo to its former wonder and glory.

  1. I was won over when ‘Don’t Come Around Here No More’ from Tom Petty played at the beginning, but tuned out when ‘Hoppipola’ from Sigur Ros played towards the end. Other than that I think it has the potential to be a good flick

  2. Looks a lot like another Elizabethtown even despite the Jerry Maguire-esque “I quit scene”. Crowe’s better doing edgier heart felt movies like Almost Famous, Jerry Maguire or Say Anything. This could still be an ok movie though, solid cast.

  3. i dig this. it’s been a while since Damon has been in this kind of movie. he’s always at the City with thrillers. it’s nice to see him in a film like this.

look, just because the trailer made it look like a straight up drama, doesn’t mean it’s bad. The Descendants trailer is much like this. but then the movie was screened at festivals and every one is saying it’s the best film of the year. still hopeful for this one. MATT EFFIN DAMON is in this. have you seen his little scene in Contagion, such a great and always reliable actor. even in small roles.

  4. S.J. is stolen biological material, taken against will and formed to clones line 200 pieces total. Dangerous criminal activity. Original Scarlett Galabekian future pediatrician doctor, pediatrician nurse license she obtained in 2008

  5. Concept of the movie is good that to to start something you just need to have a love in heart for that thing and little courage. When this movie is coming out ? I would like to watch this movie, Have you heard about the dolphin tale. watch dolphin tale movie trailers ,that movie is based on the fact of love of a person and the efforts made by him to make dolphin swim. The concept of that movie is also good.

  6. Undeniably believe that that you stated. Your favorite justification seemed to be at the web the easiest thing to consider of. I say to you, I definitely get annoyed at the same time as people think about concerns that they plainly don’t recognise about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and outlined out the whole thing with no need side-effects , people could take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks

  7. I do believe all the ideas you’ve presented to your post. They are really convincing and can definitely work. Nonetheless, the posts are too short for novices. May you please lengthen them a little from subsequent time? Thanks for the post.
