The first images from Lynne Ramsay’s indie drama We Need to Talk about Kevin have gone online.  The film stars Tilda Swinton as the mother of a teenager who goes on a high-school killing spree and her attempt to sort out her anger and grief by writing to her estranged husband (John C. Reilly).

Hit the jump to check out the images.  We Need to Talk about Kevin will play in competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, which runs from May 11 – 22nd.  Click here and here for our interviews with Swinton and Reilly where they talk about the movie.

Isn’t that eerily similar to the plot of the new Michael Sheen/Maria Bello movie? It is Ants/Bug’s Life all over again?

My thoughts exactly. That one is called Beautiful Boy, and I’m not casting aspersions on either film as they both have the potential to be great or terrible (excellent casts, at least), it’s just unfortunate that the film industry sees fit to release such story-specific movies this close to one another. It’s like when Capote and Infamous came out within a year of each other. It’s not the fault of the actors or directors or writers that they got hired, it just seems like different studios see other studios’ projects and think, “hey, we should have one of THOSE!”
