We haven’t gotten a domestic trailer for Lynne Ramsay’s We Need to Talk about Kevin but hopefully it will share the same creepiness as the one that’s hit the UK.  Bookended by Buddy Holly’s “Everyday”, the movie shows that Kevin (Ezra Miller) really, really, really doesn’t like his mother (Tilda Swinton) and the feeling may be mutual.  However, the plot centers around Kevin going on a shooting spree at his school.  When teenagers go on shoot up their schools in real life, it seems that the parents were unaware of the child’s dark side beyond saying their kid was “withdrawn” and/or “sullen” (sometimes they seemed perfectly happy).  In this movie, it looks like Kevin may as well walk around with a t-shirt that reads “I am going to do something horrible.”  I would be nervous about the flick but the strong buzz coming out of Cannes (especially for Swinton’s performance) has me interested.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  We Need to Talk about Kevin opens December 2nd.

“However, the plot centers around Kevin going on a shooting spree at his school.”

This is a spoiler if you have no previous knowledge of the film, like me.The movie may be centered around this even, like you say, but that isn’t stated in the trailer. There is nothing about a school shooting in the entire trailer. There are no guns in the trailer. There aren’t even any scenes at a school in the trailer.

“Doesn’t Kevin go to Gladstone High?”

That’s the only reference to a school and the only indication that a school may actually be in the movie.

I don’t think it’s a very good trailer.Sure, it gives you some foreboding images and a little dialog, but it gives absolutely no insight to the actual plot of the film. All this trailer shows me is a mother in some state of distress and a son who may have some “issues”.Other than that, I’m pretty lost on the plot.

I usually agree that spoilers appear on this site too much but your argument is pretty weak. If you couldn’t gather that the kid did something demented at his school then you must need things spelled out for you. And as far as what he did at his school: It’s pretty obvious it’s murder. Does knowing it was a shooting over a bombing really spoil it for you?

Pictures from the set of TDKR are spoilers. Info on the synopsis of a film is not.

Tazmaniak mate, to be fair, I’ve read the book and they reveal the “shooting spree” (you’ll understand why that’s in inverted commas when you see the movie) in the first couple of chapters so I don’t really think it’s too much of a spoiler. It would have been revealed in later trailers I’m sure.

Also, this book was amazing and if the movie is half as good it should be something to behold.

Matt, for f*ck’s sake just report the news. No one cares about your opinions. Thank you.

Swinton’s performance is really amazing but the movie is getting more and more caricatural and coarse as you head toward the ending. It could have been great with all those experimental scenes but the everyday life of Kevin and his mother is failed, for the major part of it.
