Moviemaking is hard work, but when Collider visited the set of Welcome to Yesterday (formerly known as Almanac) on a hot July day in Atlanta, the cast was busy indulging in a treat that had the inner child in me eager for some play time – the Slippery Slope Supra Slide, a gigantic, blow-up water slide. Even though we didn’t get to ride the waves ourselves, we did get to hear a significant amount of information on the rather guarded project.

While up in his attic, Jonny Weston’s David stumbles upon his late father’s old video camera and a set of blueprints. Turns out, his dad had the key to time travel and now, with the help of his sister Christina (Ginny Gardner), two buddies Quinn and Adam (Sam Lerner and Allen Evangelista), and his crush Jessie (Sofia Black-D’Elia), David is determined to put his dad’s unrealized plans to use. Hit the jump for more of our set visit preview and the film’s first trailer.

After building their very own time machine, the gang takes a pass on meeting a deceased hero or experiencing a historical event and, as many teens would, they opt to have some fun at a music festival. And we’re all for that decision considering that meant we got to spend our day in Atlanta hanging out at the mock concert event, listening to music, spending time amidst a sea of very colorful extras and enjoying set design with a serious summer-fun vibe. On top of that, we got the chance to talk to all five lead cast members as well as first-time feature director, Dean Israelite (Jonathan Liebesman’s cousin), writer Andrew Stark, and producer Brad Fuller.

We can’t give you too many details from the visit until closer to the film’s release on February 28, 2014, but fortunately we do have some concrete material we can share now because Paramount just unveiled the film’s first trailer. Catch the promo below and keep an eye out for our full set visit report in the New Year.
