In case you weren’t already aware, lead actor Andy Whitfield has dropped out of the Starz epic series Spartacus: Blood and Sand in order to receive more treatment for his Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. It’s been up in the air as to whether or not the series would simply come to an end, or if Whitfield would be replaced, but now EW brings word that Starz is moving forward with the series and re-casting his role. Who’s strapping on the sandals? Apparently Prison Break star Wentworth Miller has expressed interest in taking over the titular role of the series. Since Fox’s prison escape series ended, Miller hasn’t done anything on television, so now would be a good time to make his return. A bit disappointing the Whitfield isn’t returning under the circumstances so we wish him well and hope for a quick recovery. We’ll keep you posted as this story develops. What do you Spartacus fans think of Wentworth Miller in the role?

Andy nailed the role from the start. He can’t be replaced. I hope he makes a second speedy recovery and can come back to the show.
But luckily, story-wise, Spartacus and the now escaped slaves will presumably rampage toward Rome. So the feel of the show will be different which could help facilitate another actor stepping into the role.
As for Miller specifically, I didn’t watch Prison Break so I’m neutral. He seems like he could be a good Spartacus.
I think sentworth Miller would be a great spartacus…he did great on prision break and i think he will do fantastic on spartacus….so i say yes !!!!!!!…let him be spartacus!!!!
I am going to miss Andy very much…i thought he was such a great Spartacus!!! I didnt think anyone else could make the part both sexy and b.a. But I think Wentworth is a definiate alternative…he definiatley looks the part!!! I’m excited to see how it will pan out. Even though Andy will no longer be Spartacus the important thing is that he takes care of his health and that Spartacus continues airing…because its too great to cancel!!!

Wentworth Miller was one of the worst things about Prison Break, worse even than the horrible writing.

Michael Scofield is Wentworth. Spartacus is Andy. Better bring in some new faces or else I won’t be able to really accept Spartacus’ new look.
Wentworth is truly a terrible actor. Andy isn’t exactly a thespian, but he nailed the role of Spartacus. Better to go with a no name that can act, than with Wentworth. Wentworth isn’t exactly a name people care about, so I don’t see what Starz has to gain by hiring him.

I like this idea, however I am disappointed Whitfield will not return. I felt he really potrayed the character well especially midseason when the show caught form.
Miller may be a good recognizable face but not too much so. this way his fame wont overshadow the show itself.
One concern is Millers inability to show great emotion. At times I felt the same way about whitfield but he really came into the role…
I will definitely be watching when the best show on TV returns..

sorry but nothing could replace Andi. Starz and Andi have crafted Spartacus very well for this role, as his other roles didn’t do much for him. Starz have pointed out how successful this series has been and I am so keen to see the next. normally id wait 6- 8 months to see the next season. But I’d rather wait if I’m going to see Andi play Spartacus again.
Andy is Spartacus, Manu is Crixus.
Andy’s performance in the episode where he had to kill his only friend, Varro absolutely sealed Andy as being Spartacus.
Do a season focusing on Crixus (Manu can definitely hold a leading role with the character) and give Andy a chance to recoup and HOPEFULLY come back.
Andy is Spartacus, period. Put anyone else in that role and the show goes into the crapper.
Ijust read what you wrote and I agree with you totally. Make a whole season with Crixus and give Andy a chance to recover. This is not like Bewitch they replace Darren no one really notice because he was not the main character. What makes me mad is that we are writing our comments and no one is really going to listen.
My heart breaks at the thought that Andy might be sick again. I agree that Andy is irreplaceable. I am a Wentworth Miller fan, but I can’t imagine him in this role. There is an actor named Michael Graziadei that could be Andy’s younger brother in terms of resemblance. I often wished, with the back story that was coming up, that he would be cast as a Spartacus family member. If he were a bit older, he might have been a good stand-in for Andy, until his return. I still look forward to seeing how the show develops, but this is sad news indeed.

Wentworth would be absolutely BRILLIANT for the role. he is an exceptional actor and i think he would be great in the show. Starz would be genius if they carried on the show with wentworth but i admit he would have to shape up to play Andy’s former character but i hope Andy recovers well.

The only feasible way forward is to double the length of ‘Gods of the Arena’ (which is bound to be excellent anyway, seeing as it once again features John Hannah as Batiatus).
‘Spartacus: Blood & Sand’ just isn’t going to work with anybody but Andy Whitfield in the lead role, fans are gonna desert in droves as it just won’t be the same without him – Nobody else will be believable as Spartacus – and quite honestly, nobody else will be pretty enough!!
Wait for Andy Whitfield……that’s what all the fans want!!!
Sorry people I love Andy too, but consider the other actors on the show, he can and will be replaced. Support the show and see where it takes us. I think Chris Vance would be better fit.
I am truly a Wentworth Miller fan…. but I think the role doesn’t suit him. I’ve known him as the great Michael Scofield with the great mind and a non-violent man which is the exact opposite of the role. He also needs to work-out. Although I like him in any ways….

Has anyone seen Wentworth Miller recently? If you think he was starting to put on weight in Season 4 of Prison Break you should see him now, he’s flat out fat. Not to mention he has a non-Jew Jew fro.
I would LOVE for Wentworth Miller to be the new Spartacus. My husband is a fan of Spartacus and I am a HUGE fan of Wentworth Miller, he is a great actor and can sell a story, whether he is on Popular, The Human Stain, Prison Break, Law & Order: SVU or Resident Evil: Afterlife – and as a great actor should, he transforms into a chameleon and steps into the new character that is needed of him. Although he is a bit to slender for the roll, nothing a month or two at the gym couldn’t alter. Taylor Lautner did it for the Twilight Saga so it doesn’t seem out of reach for Wentworth. I also believe it will bring a lot of his fans from Prison Break and Resident Evil to Spartacus. The important thing about the entertainment industry is that it’s important bring in the actors that the audience wants to see and are willing to invest their time in, not who the producers see most fit. And if the people want Wentworth. GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT!

I think Wentworth Miller would be great choice. He’s a great actor that did a great job with Prison Break and would do the same for Spartacus. If you look at his face, he has that same look as Andy Whitfield. I say give him a chance.
I wish Andy a speedy recovery. That being said, I would start watching Sparticus again if Wentworth becomes sparticus. He would have to hit the gym like Brad Pit for Troy, but he’s a great actor. I think Wentworth could pull it off amazingly, hopefully he gets it.
