Wes Ball landed his first movie director gig back in 2012 for a feature-length adaptation of his short film Ruin. While that film has yet to see the light of day in its full-length version, Ball has shown no signs of slowing, having helmed the first two installments in The Maze Runner adaptation series for 20th Century Fox. Sticking with the studio, Ball is now being reported as the director for Fall of Gods, a new property recently acquired by Fox that started as a crowd-funded illustrated fantasy book. Judging from his work bringing the Maze Runner movies to life, this new project sounds like a perfect match that will allow him to make a movie aimed at a slightly older audience.

As THR reports, Ball will direct Fall of Gods, a fantasy film rooted in Norse mythology that is based on the Kickstarted book of the same name. The creation of Rasmus Berggreen, designed through his co-founded Danish visual development studio MOOD, Fall of Gods is a unique take on Scandinavian mythology delivered in a tone described as "brutal, dirty, and powerful." Berggreen teamed up with "Hitman" video game writer Michael Vogt to achieve the desired outcome. The project evolved from an open community on Facebook, became a published project at Behance, and then went to Kickstarter to answer the fans' demands through crowd-funding. That successfully funded book, full of lush and lavish illustrations, has now been optioned for a movie treatment.

There's much, much more over at the project's Kickstarter page, so be sure to check it out if you're interested. You can also watch the Kickstarter video for the fully funded project below, followed by its synopsis:

Fall of Gods is an illustrated book inspired by Norse mythology, following Vali, a warrior haunted by his past, but who has found peace in the arms of a woman. For years he has lived far from society, tending to his farm and trying to forget the battles he fought…and the crimes he committed. But one day his love disappears, and he must set out to find her. He will once again have to face the creatures of Jotunheim and the powerful Aesir. Suddenly, the man he thought he had buried deep down inside has risen to the surface once more...and he comes seeking vengeance.
