Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson Will SCREAM Again (and again, and again)

scream_ghostface_01.jpgWho wants another “Scream” movie?  Okay, Kevin Williamson, put your hand down.  We know that you want it to be the mid-90s again but that’s just not going to happen.  You had your success with the first couple of “Scream” movies, the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” movies, and “Dawson’s Creek” but now it’s time to just get on a yacht and sail away.

Kevin Williamson will not be heeding my yacht-advice, according to Wes Craven.  Apparently Williamson is hard at work at not only a fourth “Scream” movie but “Scream 5″ and “Scream 6″ as he sees a whole new trilogy with Courtney Cox and David Arquette virtually set to return but with everyone else being new and ready to die at the hands of a slasher that was once meta-commentary and now is merely commentary.

While Craven won’t commit to whether or not he’s directing any more “Scream” movies, he’ll almost certainly return in a producing capacity and he says that he’s expecting a script around the end of summer.  Whether the franchise will move forward from there is anyone’s guess and Williamson’s prayer.

Three more movies with people running around trying not to be killed by a masked guy? Do we really need that?

I think it would be great if one of the following two things happen: (1) Sidney is the first victim in the first scene much like Drew Barrymore was in the original Scream or (2) Sidney ends up being revealed as the killer. Both could be quite a shock to fans of the trilogy and it wouldn't require Neve to be onscreen all that much. Then, it can pick up with a new set of characters for the next trilogy. I am glad that Gail and Dewey will be back but I think they should be phased out eventually…I'm actually excited about this news and can't wait to see what Kevin comes up with…
