Apparently it’s the night for inspirational movie trailers, as Sony Pictures has now released the first trailer for director Thomas Carter’s (Coach Carter) sports drama When the Game Stands Tall.  The film tells the true story of the longest winning streak for any American sport, held by the football team of De La Salle High School.  However, instead of focusing on their rise to glory, When the Game Stands Tall revolves around what happened when that 151-game streak was broken and how the fallout affected the team, coaches, and town.  It looks to be quite similar in tone and focus to Friday Night Lights, with an emphasis on the lives of the players and not just the game itself.

Hit the jump to watch the debut When the Game Stands Tall trailer.  The film stars Jim Caviezel, Michael Chiklis, Alexander Ludwig, Clancy Brown, and Laura DernWhen the Game Stands Tall opens in theaters August 22nd.

Inspired by a true story, WHEN THE GAME STANDS TALL tells the remarkable journey of legendary football coach Bob Ladouceur (Jim Caviezel), who took the De La Salle High School Spartans from obscurity to a 151-game winning streak that shattered all records for any American sport.

Welp, no use in watching the movie. Just watched the whole thing in less than 3 minutes… God, I hate trailers like that!

Jim Caviezel is such a brilliant actor, I will watch anything with him. I’m glad to see he’s getting more roles. He’s probably the best, most under-used actor alive.

      Needs more Sam Rockwell…

      • The Flobbit

Sam Rockwell’s in about three films a year. Jim Caviezel’s last film was Escape Plan, and before that it was a direct-to-DVD film about slavery. Both are excellent actors, though.

Just watch The Count of Monte Cristo, The Thin Red Line, The Passion, or Person of Interest for a show of Caviezel’s talent. A tremendous actor.

        I agree 100%.

So underrated. Love Person Of Interest.

What surprises me is how Person of Interest never stops evolving. I also love how it shows all the levels, from street crime, to the NYPD, to the big gangs, to the FBI, to the CIA, to the shadowy, grey level we call “The Government”.

        Amazing show. Quality entertainment.

        I was making a joke…guess it didn’t hit…

      • The Flobbit

        Oh sorry about that.

I agree, I figured he got black balled with Mel Gibson for The Passion.

      • The Flobbit

Just look at the evidence. Before: leading roles everywhere, rising star. After: Outlander. Mel Gibson told Caviezel not to take the role, that it would ruin him. Caviezel replied, “Mel, I’m 33 and my initials are JC. I think I was meant to play this role.”
