New WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD Trailer: Shailene Woodley Tackles Raging Hormones and a Missing Mother

     August 21, 2014

Magnolia Pictures has released a new White Bird in a Blizzard trailer for director Gregg Araki’s (Kaboom) sexually charged drama.  Based on the Laura Kasichke novel of the same name, the story takes place in the 1980s and stars Shailene Woodley as a young woman relishing her newfound sexuality whose life is upended when her beautiful, enigmatic mother (Eva Green) suddenly goes missing.  Green has made a habit lately of turning in regularly scene-stealing work, and it appears that she tackles another slightly unhinged character here while Woodley displays her swell ability to lay out her emotions onscreen.

Here’s the official synopsis for White Bird in a Blizzard:

Kat Connors is 17 years old when her perfect homemaker mother, Eve, a beautiful, enigmatic, and haunted woman, disappears – just as Kat is discovering and relishing her newfound sexuality. Having lived for so long in a stifled, emotionally repressed household, she barely registers her mother’s absence and certainly doesn’t blame her doormat of a father, Brock, for the loss. In fact, it’s almost a relief. But as time passes, Kat begins to come to grips with how deeply Eve’s disappearance has affected her. Returning home on a break from college, she finds herself confronted with the truth about her mother’s departure, and her own denial about the events surrounding it…

    Shailene Woodley in heat?
    No thank you

Yeah, I dunno. I like everyone, except for Woodley. I don’t really DISLIKE her, but I don’t really understand all the love for her either.

How does Gregg Araki, a no talent LGBT director (yes, I have seen some of his work), continue to direct with so many famous actors? Another Eva Green and Shailene Woodley movie (both whom I adore) I am not looking forward to.

This could be pretentious crap, or it could be sort of a Douglas Sirk film for the 80s. I’m really not sure, but I want to see it–though I am getting sick of the male-fantasy “young woman randomly throws herself at an older man” subplots.

Hopefully Woodley doesn’t narrate the whole film, because she’s not very good at it.
