The first trailer for director Roland Emmerich’s presidential thriller White House Down has been released.  While the trailer (and plot) have lots of elements in common with Antoine Fuqua’s Olympus Has Fallen, our first introduction to White House Down comes through the lens of various news outlets reporting an attack on Washington, D.C. rather than centering on the heroic lead; we don’t even seen Channing Tatum until about half-way through.  Emmerich’s usual flare for the dramatic is evident, but then he goes and does something interesting by allowing silence to fill a good portion of the trailer.  It also looks like the danger will come not from an outside enemy, but from within.  There are moments that appear to be more Die Hard in nature (and a few glimpses that could be considered spoilers), but there’s just enough here to warrant some interest even after a movie with the exact same plot was just released.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film also stars Jamie Foxx, Maggie Gyllenhaal, James Woods, Richard Jenkins, Jason Clarke, Jake Weber, Lance Reddick and Joey KingWhite House Down opens on June 28th, 2013.

Here’s the synopsis for White House Down:

Capitol Policeman John Cale (Channing Tatum) has just been denied his dream job with the Secret Service of protecting President James Sawyer (Jamie Foxx). Not wanting to let down his little girl with the news, he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the complex is overtaken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. Now, with the nation’s government falling into chaos and time running out, it’s up to Cale to save the president, his daughter, and the country.

I saw an 8 minute sizzle reel a few hours ago… This looks pretty good. The trailer doesnt really give show you any of the humor in the film but its still solid.

      So it too So epic.

I’ve been looking forward to this one much more than Olympus actually. Roland is a master with these type of films and with a stellar cast led by Tatum and Foxx, this will definately be an exciting ride.

I don’t get why they didn’t play up the humor in this movie; this trailer just looks like Olympus Has Fallen with better special effects…

Who will the bad guys be? Muslims? North Koreans? Whoever America is looking to invade next, with the support of Joe Public courtesy of Pentagon Films Inc.

I got the impression from the trailer that it will be domestic.

      Agreed, shameless movies.

Olympus Has Fallen was actually pretty awesome except for some bad CGI. This looks a lot worse and coming from the director of 2012 is nothing to be bragging about. 2012 was utter-shit and Roland has been falling back on his credit for Independence Days…..his ONLY decent movie

From the director of some movies I don’t care about… comes another movie I don’t care about. Obviously there needs to be comparison with Olympus Has Fallen, which im going to say will probably be the better of the two. Olympus was really good with the exception of a few CGI moments. I have to say though, I just don’t buy Channing Tatum as a badass/action star, it worked horribly in G.I. Joe and it most likely will not work here.

    Roland sucks soooooo bad

I’m not sold, but I will be there to watch when this goes online.

    Crap.

The first minute could have been a cool set up for Cloverfield 2! lol… This doesn’t exactly peek my interest though. Like others have pointed out, this doesn’t look as good as Olympus Had Fallen. I saw that over the weekend and thought it was a lot of fun and well made with the exception of the bad CGI. Gerard Butler was kick ass also, he needs to stick to those types of roles, drop the rom-coms Gerard! This film also looks to have some spotty CGI. Oh and it will probably be PG-13. I will pass on this one.

Action scenes in this movie are clearer than Olympus Has Fallen which is set at night.

Tagline is a FLAT OUT RIPOFF from Michael Mann’s COLLATERAL – also this looks bad.

Waiting for this !!!!! Looks good than Olympus !!!! Roland is apt for these kind of movies.

This is what a trailer is supposed to be, not a summary of the damn movie…

  • Olympus has Risen!

So, we’re now remaking movies currently in theaters? Folks, we’ve reached a hyper-meta state of being!
P.S. This is obviously sarcasm, please no responses from dummies.
