New Trailer for Roland Emmerich’s WHITE HOUSE DOWN Starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx

     May 2, 2013

Columbia Pictures has released a new trailer for director Roland Emmerich’s White House Down.  The story follows a rejected Secret Service applicant (Channing Tatum) who must save the President (Jamie Foxx) when a heavily-armed paramilitary group takes over the White House.  While the first teaser trailer played up the severity of the situation, this full trailer shows that the film has a much lighter tone than we initially thought.  It looks to be along the lines of a buddy cop movie, only in this case one half of the team is the President of the United States.  As for comparisons to Olympus Has Fallen, whereas the Gerard Butler-fronted actioner was all doom and gloom (and a heavy amount of “dumb”), this new trailer for White House Down makes Emmerich’s take on the same premise look like a whole lot of fun.

Also starring Maggie GyllenhaalJames Woods, Richard Jenkins, Joey King, Jake Weber, Lance Reddick and Jason ClarkeWhite House Down opens on June 28th.  Hit the jump to check out the new trailer, and click here to catch up on Steve’s set visit coverage.

Here’s the synopsis for White House Down:

Capitol Policeman John Cale (Channing Tatum) has just been denied his dream job with the Secret Service of protecting President James Sawyer (Jamie Foxx). Not wanting to let down his little girl with the news, he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the complex is overtaken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. Now, with the nation’s government falling into chaos and time running out, it’s up to Cale to save the president, his daughter, and the country.

I don’t have audio on this computer so i haven’t watched the trailer yet, but I just do not like Jamie Foxx and I’m not overly sure why. I do admit, watching him sabotage another comedian in the middle of a Roast was definitely a turn off on him. He just seems to think he is top shit or something.

    • George Otwori

He’s a early 40′s black leading man in an industry that really took some back steps from having more diversity on screen. Where now celebrity and box office numbers matter more than talent deciding if a person getting a good role. If he’s a little brash and arrogant so be it. He’s no where near as bad reality TV sex tape attention whore.

Oh shut up. I hate apologists like you, it’s not about him being black. It’s about him being an asshole to people. To him thinking skin color matters and being a bitch about it. Suck something

It’s a better trailer but still skepital if this movie will fresh take after the creative failure of similar concept movie Olympus has fallen. Tatum still feels bit rigid as an actor and Foxx seems like he going to be playing a goofy president. The buddy concept feels a bit contrived. Hopefully the producers took note of Olympus’s problem.

The buddy cop formula just doesn’t seem to be working here. Maybe its my dislike for Channing Tatum or maybe I feel that the concept of the White House being taken over by Terrorists should be taken a little more seriously. Hell, maybe its because none of the jokes were actually funny.
