Last week, production began on the adaption of Cheryl Strayed's best-selling memoir, WildReese Witherspoon stars as Strayed, who decided to hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail alone after the dissolution of her marriage and death of her mother.  Witherspoon has tweeted the first image from the set, and it confirms our suspicions that such a trip will require a large backpack.  It's good to know they're playing to the reality of the situation.

Hit the jump to check out the image.  Additionally, Deadline reports that Laura Dern has joined the cast.  Wild also stars Thomas Sadoski (The Newsroom), the film will also co-star Michiel Huisman (World War Z), W. Earl Brown (The Lone Ranger), Gaby Hoffman (Veronica Mars), and Kevin Rankin (Dallas Buyers Club).

Here's the official synopsis for Wild:

With the dissolution of her marriage and the death of her mother, Cheryl Strayed (Reese Witherspoon) has lost all hope.  After years of reckless, destructive behavior, she makes a rash decision.  With absolutely no experience, driven only by sheer determination, Cheryl hikes more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail, alone.  WILD powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddens, strengthens, and ultimately heals her.
