Like just about every successful horror film of the past 25 years, Paranormal Activity will have a sequel.  That much is assured, but the question is, who's going to direct it?  Apparently Brian De Palma (Scarface, The Untouchables, The Black Dahlia) is among the names floating around the project.

But like its predecessor, The Blair Witch Project, Paranormal Activity relied more on its mood and semi-documentary to generate buzz.  Considering that Paranormal Activity was a smash without a marquee name attached, there will be obvious pressure on the sequel to perform.  De Palma isn't really known for his horror movies, with Carrie being the biggest exception, but his name does generate interest.  The question in my mind is how do you make a new, interesting story while still being faithful to the feeling of the first?

Paranormal Activity 2 is slated to be released on October 22.
