Warner Bros. has picked up the buddy comedy Swear to God with Will Ferrell attached to star and Adam McKay set to produce and direct.  The script is from Due Date screenwriters Alan Cohen and Alan Freedland and Deadline reports that Ferrell will play “a narcissistic hedge fund manager who thinks he has seen God.”  If the project goes into production, it will be the fifth or sixth film directed by McKay that stars Ferrell.  However, it will be the first one McKay didn’t write (although I’d be surprised if he didn’t have input into the script).  Hit the jump to learn more about the Ferrell and McKay’s other projects.

McKay and Ferrell are also working on the football comedy Three Mississippi with Mark Wahlberg, Alec Baldwin, and possibly Jeremy Renner co-starring.  The story revolves an far-too-heated annual neighborhood football game between Ferrell’s rich and successful family team and the ramshackle team of losers led at first by Baldwin’s character and then by his son (Wahlberg).  If Renner signs on, McKay wants him to play an ex-con and “the idea is to bring in, like, 15 people that we love in and just do a big, funny holiday movie.”  The premise sounds like a lot of fun and, no offense to Swear to God, I’d rather see this project get off the ground first.

McKay is also still pursuing his dream project of adapting Garth Ennis’ comic book series The Boys.  The series is about a group of special agents tasked with protecting the world from superheroes and supervillains alike by any means necessary.  As for Ferrell, he’s co-starring Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal in the Spanish-language comedy Casa de mi Padre.
