Will Smith is lining up a new project, and it sounds a bit like an action-thriller from the 90s. THR reports that Smith has attached himself to star in the Paramount Pictures actioner Bounty, a Boston-set thriller that revolves around a man wrongly convicted of murder. When he escapes from prison determined to prove his innocence, he finds himself the target of a $10 million “dead or alive” bounty, solicited by the widow of the man he supposedly killed. Smith’s Overbook Entertainment will produce the project, which is based on a spec script from writer Sascha Penn.

Since the disastrous performance of After Earth, Smith has been stretching himself a bit as of late. He’ll next be seen in the caper Focus, opening in a couple of weeks, but he’s currently shooting the deeply dramatic NFL-centric Concussion, in which he plays one of the doctors who first started pointing out a correlation between mental issues and injuries sustained while playing professional football. After he wraps Concussion, though, he’ll switch things up again by playing Deadshot in director David Ayer’s big DC comics adaptation Suicide Squad.

At this point Smith is only attached to star in Bounty and the film doesn’t yet have a director, so who knows if it’ll make it all the way to production. But Smith’s involvement is certainly a boost to the developing project, so it’s one to keep an eye on.
