We know that Hugh Jackman, director James Mangold and writer Michael Green are all working on the next Wolverine movie, and now we can throw another name in the mix as well - Patrick Stewart. Yes, Charles Xavier will appear in the upcoming film and not just as a cameo.

-

Here's what Stewart told Steve when he asked if the rumors about his involvement and the Old Man Logan story are true:

"I think what you say is true. There is a project in development. I understand that Professor Xavier will be making more than an appearance, however, and that intrigues me."

He also specifically addressed the Old Man Logan arc by joking:

"And the idea of an old Wolverine - I'm really looking forward to Hugh Jackman getting old. You know, damn him. He looks so great! So I'm hoping to see him covered in prosthetics, you know? And then he'll make me look better if that's the case."

When Blunt Talk writer/executive producer Jonathan Ames noted that he thought Wolverine doesn't age, Stewart explained:

"He's not supposed to. Unfortunately, actors do and so I think Hugh maybe has begun to get a little uncomfortable, and I know how that feels."

So now we know that Stewart is involved and it also seems like he's aware of the Old Man Logan rumor so perhaps that idea really has been discussed. It certainly would make for an interesting sendoff. The story was written by Mark Millar and takes place in a United States that's been conquered by supervillains. Logan's busy living a quieter life with his wife and kids, but when a blind Hawkeye approaches him with a job offer, Logan has to take it because he needs the cash. Clearly there's some serious ownership issues here because Fox doesn't own the rights to a number of featured characters, including Hawkeye, but perhaps that's where a character they do own the rights to, like Professor X, could step in.
