A couple months ago, we reported that Patty JenkinsWonder Woman would take place across multiple time periods. One of those periods was World War I, specifically 1916, in the middle of the conflict. A later report said that World War I would serve as flashbacks and that the movie would primarily take place in the modern day.

However the past fits into the overall narrative, new set photos have leaked online confirming that at least part of Wonder Woman is going to be set during the World War I era. ScreenCrush also reports that Chris Pine will be playing dual roles: Steve Trevor, Wonder Woman’s (Gal Gadot) love interest, and Steve Trevor’s grandfather, who encountered Wonder Woman on Paradise Island early in the 20th century and brought her to our world. The younger Steve Trevor will team up with Wonder Woman to fight off her foes Ares and Circe.

Keep in mind that plot is just a rumor for now, but it will be interesting to see how much time the movie will spend in World War I. While Captain America: The First Avenger didn’t blow up the box office, it showed that a superhero period piece could work when done right, and I’m eager to see the DCCU expand into other time periods.

Check out the Wonder Woman set photos below. The film opens June 23, 2017, and also stars Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis (Harry Potter), Ewen Bremner (Snowpiercer), Saïd Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), and Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead).
