TV Networks Not Interested in David E. Kelley’s New WONDER WOMAN Series

by     Posted: January 8th, 2011 at 7:48 am

Last October we got word that David E. Kelley, the man behind such series as Ally McBeal and Boston Legal, was developing a new Wonder Woman TV series. While the prospect certainly sounded enticing, apparently networks aren’t too keen on the idea. EW reports that all the major networks have passed on the superhero adaptation, and while the team behind the contemporary take on the lassoing heroine isn’t giving up, the project is “not moving forward at this time.” Between this fallen attempt and the rumors surrounding a Wonder Woman film, it sounds like no one can find the invisible jet to bring the iconic DC Comics off the page and onto any screen, regardless of the size. Anyone disappointed?

Good, now bring on the movie. Wonder Woman deserves it as do girls young and old and all the rest of us fans.

It should be a film and could be really good if done well!
It should be sort of a period film where Wonder Woman fights the Nazis!
I’m sure they’ll screw it uo somehow!

God, please make her fly! No lame invisible jet from the 70′s. More 90′s comic book action! If they make her all traditional and greek with the lame jet and lame costume of course the movie will fail! Try something new with a comic book movie for once on no origins!

I agree, no invisible jet, but the real Wonder Woman never flew. That was an 80s invention (she’s been well established since the 40s). She always was able to leap very far (like the Hulk) which is more believable than flying
AND PLEASE will everyone who says, “Yeah make a movie, just don’t have her in her costume or anything Greek,” please just shut up. She’s an Amazon, idiots. So, if she’s not a Greek Amazon with powers from the gods and she’s not in her costume, WHY then make her Wonder Woman at all. I mean, that’s just ludicrous. You and Olivia Dumb-Ass Munn go lobby for another Ultraviolet or Elektra film then. Oh yeah, those sucked.
I actually believe if Thor is successful it will go a long way toward showing movie execs how this character can be done properly.

I’m very disappointed. Wonder Woman deserves a TV series and/or a film. I agree with Tricia…no invisible jet…flying is best…getting the power from the Gods. I’m not sure that the “major” TV networks liked it coming from David Kelley. I’d prefer Wonder Woman being produced and dealt with by a genuine fan that would treat the series seriously…like Smallville.

I hope with Smallville ending this May that some network will step up and take on Wonder Woman…maybe a cable network like TNT, SyFy, USA or FX? I think its important to have an origin, but to quickly focus on contemporary action. I think it’s important to have a female heroine on TV, again produced seriously, smart and thoughtfully.

dude, smallville’s clark kent is soooo fucking far from the real clark in the books, so that’s a horrible example, i’m sorry. that show, while entertaining at times is a goddamn abomination imo.

as far as wonder woman, to me she is a bad ass character when interacting w/ the league. on any given day she is way more rational than clark or bruce. i just don’t think she can carry her own movie. i think the best way to handle her is to move on to a justice league movie and have clark and bruce scout her out like in the bruce timm series.

I know Joss Wheadon was trying to get a Wonder Woman movie off the ground, and that got nixed. But if the gods were good and he could be talked into doing a Wonder Woman tv series, that would be AWESOME. He’d even already have a built-in fan base and we know that he’d be able to treat her as well as she deserves!

I love all the commentary on this discussion. I agree that Wonder Woman deserve to be brought back into the lime light! She is a power example of an excellent role model to young girls and woman like. She also carries with her a great deal of sex appeal to deal with the male factor. I would love to see both a movie and a TV series.
Why do only the male super heroes ever get any real press. Don’t get me wrong, I am so looking forward to the Green Lantern Movie not to mention Captain America. But, lets give the girls a chance to use there brains while kicking some ass and look stunning doing it.

And yes, she should fly! She’s wonder woman second only to superman and that may be debated.

    Bring on the shows…NOW!
