There hasn’t been a prominent adaptation of DC Comics’ Wonder Woman since the 70′s TV series starring Lynda Carter as the title hero. Though there have been sporadic talks of a film adaptation from Joel Silver and Joss Whedon with names like Sandra Bullock, Megan Fox and Angelina Jolie being rumored to wear the golden bracelets, Deadline says the female hero will be flying her invisible jet onto the small screen courtesy of David E. Kelly (Boston Legal, The Practice, Ally McBeal). The praised creator will write and produce the new series at Warner Bros. (the home of DC Entertainment) which is on the verge of being shopped around to networks. More after the jump:
This won’t be the first time a DC Comics superhero has found a home on the flickering box since Smallville is currently airing its tenth and final season, but this will be the first contemporary take on the female hero. It’s unknown if the signature Amazon woman of a hero will have all her usual powers and accessories. A Lasso of Truth just doesn’t seem all that practical unless Kelley is planning on making her a successful lawyer (which, considering his track record with legal dramas, doesn’t seem all that crazy of a thought). We’re sure to find out more details as the project develops, so stay tuned. Anyone excited to see Wonder Woman head back to television. I don’t like Kelley’s work -I find his shows febrile & the relationships cloyingly creepy.
But if he is smart enough to cast Bridget Regan as Diana Prince – I’m there. Then I’d sincerely hope he hires people who are literate & didn’t learn how to write from watching Oprah.
