Woody Allen to Receive Cecil B. DeMille Award at 71st Annual Golden Globes

Woody Allen has been selected as the next recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the upcoming 71st Golden Globe Awards in January.  The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced today that Allen will join the likes of Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Robin Williams, and Jodie Foster on the roster of Cecil B. DeMille Award recipients, but it seems highly unlikely that Allen will appear to accept the award.  Allen famously skips awards season every year, and has yet to personally accept his 9 Oscar wins, making only one exception to appear on the broadcast in 2002 to introduce a montage of New York City clips following the 9/11 attacks.

Despite the fact that Allen has made a habit of skipping awards season, it’s tough to imagine the star-obsessed HFPA choosing him as the recipient of the Cecil B. DeMille award if they had confirmation that he wouldn’t appear at the televised ceremony.  We’ll find out for sure when the mostly pointless 71st Golden Globes are held on January 12, 2014.  Hit the jump to watch Allen’s only appearance at the Oscars and to read the press release.
