Amazon Studios is already carving out a place for itself in the original content realm, but after Transparent scored two Golden Globe wins, best TV comedy or musical and best actor in a TV comedy, the company is bound to start attracting even more top talent, like Woody Allen.

It’s being reported that Allen will write and direct his very first television show for Amazon Studios, which is currently being called the Untitled Woody Allen Project.  The company has already given the half-hour series a full season order and plans to make the show available exclusively on Amazon Prime Instant Video.  Hit the jump for more on Amazon’s Untitled Woody Allen Project.

We don’t know what the show will be about just yet, but here are some thoughts from Amazon Studios Vice President Roy Price via Variety:

“Woody Allen is a visionary creator who has made some of the greatest films of all-time, and it’s an honor to be working with him on his first television series. From ‘Annie Hall’ to ‘Blue Jasmine,’ Woody has been at the creative forefront of American cinema and we couldn’t be more excited to premiere his first TV series exclusively on Prime Instant Video next year.”

And here’s what Allen had to add:

“I don’t know how I got into this. I have no ideas and I’m not sure where to begin. My guess is that Roy Price will regret this.”

I’d like to bet that won’t be the case.  There’s no guarantee that the show will be on a Blue Jasmine, Midnight in Paris level, but what one might consider Allen’s less successful work of recent years, like Magic in the Moonlight perhaps, is still quality, highly entertaining material.  It’ll be interesting to see how he adjusts to the TV format, but he did write for The Ed Sullivan Show, The Tonight Show and more early on in his career, so perhaps the transition will be smoother than one might think.
