Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson Talk FREE BIRDS, How They Got Involved, What Surprised Them About the Recording Process, and More

     November 2, 2013

Opening this weekend is writer-director Jimmy Hayward’s animated family movie, Free Birds.  The film centers on two turkeys who travel back in time in order to try to undo the tradition of eating turkey on Thanksgiving.  The voice cast is led by Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson, with Amy Poehler, Dan Fogler, Lesley Nicol, George Takei, Colm Meaney, and Keith David filling out the ensemble.  For more on the film, watch the trailer, or click here for all our previous coverage.

At the recent L.A. press day, I landed a video interview with Harrelson and Wilson.  They talked about making Free Birds, the recording process, how they were approached to be in the film, the concept of time traveling turkeys, and more.  Hit the jump to watch.

Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson:

  • How were they presented with the project?
  • How you’re either on board with time traveling turkeys or you’re not.
  • Did anything surprise them about the recording process?

  • Hankenshift

It’s such a dreadful cartoon. One of the worst ever made. The voices are not the problem, the script and direction are. Who ever thought the “director” of one of the worst films ever made, “jonah hex,” would be suitable to work on a film like this? It’s unfunny, ugly, and really cheap looking. And it starts with one of the worst designed logos for a studio ever made. Relativity really should hire a designer to redo their logo.

    • Sweet Pea

Ahh thats a shame. I was just thinking how good & potentially funny the premise was, and the voice cast sounds excellent.
