The first clip from Wrath of the Titans has gone online.  The sequel has Zeus (Liam Neeson) beseeching Perseus (Sam Worthington) to help stop the titans.  In the clip, Zeus once again shows he’s kind of a moron as he places his trust in Hades, Lord of the Underworld (Ralph Fiennes) and Ares, the God of War (Édgar Ramírez).  If you’re going to start a coalition, perhaps it’s best not to invite gods who thrive on death and destruction.  I’ve heard that the sequel is much better than Clash of the Titans, but that’s a low bar to clear.  There was a lot of potential in the first film, so perhaps Wrath will finally deliver (even though Zeus is giant doofus).

Hit the jump to check out the clip.  The film also stars Bill Nighy, Rosamund Pike, Toby Kebbell and Danny HustonWrath of the Titans opens in 3D on March 30th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Wrath of the Titans:

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus (Sam Worthington) –the demigod son of Zeus (Liam Neeson)–is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades (Ralph Fiennes) and Poseidon (Danny Huston). The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld. Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramirez), switch loyalties and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans’ strength grows stronger as Zeus’ remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth. Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon’s demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

The Greek gods always were a bit dumb when it came to trusting one another despite the constant back stabbing and rivalries. Zeus, Poseidon and Hades were brothers and near equal in power, but Ares was a chump who even lost to a demigod. Of course Hades was almost never “bad”; just stuck with a crappy job that made him despised by mortals. But Hollywood never gets these things right…come to think of it the Greeks themselves often “rebooted” or “re-imagined” their own deities. So I guess there’s a certain symmetry to the whole movie.
