I don’t really understand the Mannequin Challenge or where it came from. To be perfectly honest, I don’t really care. But if it helps reveal a new look at a highly anticipated feature film, I’m all for it.
Disney’s adaptation of A Wrinkle In Time, directed by Selma’s Ava DuVernay, is on its third week of filming. Now thanks to one of those Mannequin Challenge videos featuring the cast and crew preparing a scene, we know the film will hit theaters on April 6, 2018. In addition, the video offers a new look at the set, including the young Storm Reid in costume as Meg, a girl who goes on a journey through time and space with her brother, Charles, in an effort to bring back her missing father.

Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling play Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit, and Mrs. Who, while Chris Pine plays Mr. Murry, Zach Galifinakis plays The Happy Medium, Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Belle) plays Mrs. Murry, André Holland (Moonlight) plays Principal Jenkins, Levi Miller (Pan) plays Calvin, and Deric McCabe (Hold On) plays Charles Wallace. The cast also features Bellamy Young (ABC’s Scandal), Rowan Blanchard (Disney Channel’s Girl Meets World), Will McCormack (Elf), and Michael Pena.
DuVernay is the first African-American woman to direct a Hollywood studio blockbuster worth $100 million. The director, who more recently released her incarceration documentary 13th on Netflix, told Collider in an interview: It’s just a classic story, the kind of legacy of the book, and fans who love it and when you hear about why for such personal reasons. It’s a story with a girl at the center — a girl who time travels, travels the universe in search of someone she loves, her father, and in the process she finds herself. Kids fly and to ask Disney, ‘Could these be brown kids?’ and for them to say yes I was like, ‘Let’s do it.’ There are creatures, there are different planets. To think about, ‘Wow, I could design those planets, what those planets look like. I get to do that?’ That stuff is rare air, and so all that stuff immediately I was like, ‘I’m in.
