To be eligible for the group’s annual awards, the Writers Guild of America requires that screenplays be produced under WGA jurisdiction and formally submitted for consideration. This year, 76 films qualified — 43 original screenplays and 33 adapted. A few of the quality scripts that didn’t meet the qualifications: Another Year, Biutiful, Blue Valentine, The Ghost Writer, The King’s Speech, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Toy Story 3, Winter’s Bone.
The WGA winners have been a reliable predictor of the Oscars: the winners have matched up 11 of the last 16 years in both the original and adapted categories. To my eyes, The King’s Speech is a lock for a Best Original Screenplay Oscar nomination and the favorite to win. So we’ll see how that relationship holds this year. Hit the jump for the full list of eligible screenplays.

Gee, I really hope the award goes to a movie that flew under the radar this year, but was really good. Like “The Social Network”.
did i just see furry vengeance on this list…wtf????
I guess no one loves Scott Pilgrim, do they? When someone nominates that crapfest “Furry Vengeance” over, in my opinion, the greatest film of the year and a future cult classic, I lose hope in humanity. The question is, dear friends of the Internet, why do I still have hope in humanity?

John, it’s not that the Guild doesn’t like Scott Pilgrim per say; if I understand it correctly, either the screenwriting process for that film didn’t fit their criteria (like Blue Valentine, which was supposedly written over a decade) or it simply wasn’t submitted.
I agree that The King’s Speech is a lock for a nom, but I don’t think I’m sold on it winning. Inception’s picked up a few wins in that category lately. The Kids (and maybe Black Swan?) also seem likely to be nominated, and they may or may not be able to overtake King in the next two months.
Adapted’s no contest; anyone betting against Sorkin’s kissing their money away.
@Chris
Social Network might win this round, but for some reason Toy Story 3′s considered “adapted”. See you at the Oscars!
