For many people, Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, in the roles of Agent Dana Scully and Agent Fox Mulder, will always be the symbolic faces of The X-Files, which is just fine but not exactly accurate. Toward the end of the series's admirable nine-season run, the show became more focused on the exploits of Robert Patrick's Agent John Doggett and Annabeth Gish's Agent Monica Reyes, and though their chemistry never was quite as sublimely strange as Duchovny and Anderson's, there were plenty of worthwhile episodes in their seasons. Now comes news that Gish, who you may also remember as the eldest daughter of President Bartlett in The West Wing, is set to reprise her roles as Reyes in Fox's hugely anticipated X-Files reboot.

The inclusion of Reyes in the series adds to a reassuringly long list of returning characters, beginning, of course, with Duchovny and Anderson, who we just recently learned will portray Mulder and Scully after the dissolution of their romantic relationship in the revival. Beyond that, there was recent confirmation that Byers (Bruce Harwood), Frohike (Tom Braidwood), and Langly (Dean Haglund), better known as the Lone Gunmen, a trio of conspiracy experts, will be appearing in the revival, a fact that was announced by Haglund himself during a press conference in Australia. Mitch Pileggi's Skinner and The Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis) will also return for the revival, which I both cannot wait for and somehow cannot believe will ever be able to live up to expectations. Time will tell, as some person said.
