Although X-Men: First Class pulled its title from the comic of the same name, the film didn’t really have the X-Men’s first class. The first five mutants in the X-Men comics were Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Angel, and Iceman. Now it looks like X-Men: Apocalypse will have four out of five, which ain’t bad.

Director Bryan Singer has released a new X-Men: Apocalypse image showing some production art of Angel, a mutant who can fly on feathered wings:

We previously reported that Tye Sheridan is playing Cyclops and Sophie Turner is Jean Grey. Nicholas Hoult is returning to play Beast, and Iceman isn’t part of the team because the movie takes place in the 1980s. In February, Ben Hardy (EastEnders) was cast in a “key, as-yet-undisclosed” role, and presumably, he’s playing Angel, although that’s still unconfirmed.

So what’s happening to dear Angel, aka Warren Worthington III, in this picture? It looks like he’s being presented to a crowd for entertainment purposes as opposed to study or prosecution. If we want to turn speculation to full blast, perhaps Angel is part of a traveling circus of some kind since Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), who is also in the movie, comes from that background in the comics? Additionally, in the comics, Angel decides to turn to Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) to have his mutation undone, but is tricked into becoming Apocalypse’s henchman, Archangel. Is that where the character will be headed in Singer’s film?

X-Men: Apocalypse opens May 27, 2016, and also stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Rose Byrne, Alexandra Shipp, Lana Candor, and Evan Peters.
