It’s officially 2016, which means the next installment in the X-Men franchise is that much closer. Director Bryan Singer made his return to the series with 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, and now he helms his fourth X-Men movie with X-Men: Apocalypse, for which we have a brand new set photo that further reveals the mutant Psylocke. Olivia Munn herself revealed the image on her Instagram page, highlighting the fact that Munn's iteration of Psylocke is incredibly close to the comics version of the character—no yellow spandex-like outcries here.

Described by Munn as “a telekinetic psychopath who chooses to kill with a sword because she wants to do it up close and intimate and killing from afar just seems too easy and no fun,” Psylocke factors into X-Men: Apocalypse as one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, recruited by Oscar Isaac’s villain to help bring about global destruction. Indeed, in this new set photo we see Psylocke flanked by plenty of debris and green screen, so one imagines we’re in for a pretty massive finale in the 1983-set superhero pic.

It’s fascinating that Singer, someone who helped shaped the current iteration of the superhero genre with 2000’s X-Men, a movie that opened with a sequence set during the Holocaust, is still tinkering with this franchise a decade and a half later. Days of Future Past was a lot of fun but kind of faded as time wore on, so I’m curious to see what he brings to the franchise with Apocalypse, for which he’s crafting new, younger iterations of characters like Jean Grey (Sophie Turner and Cyclops (Tye Sheridan).

For now take a closer look at Munn’s Psylocke below, who I’m eager to see in action. X-Men: Apocalypse opens in theaters on May 27, 2016 and also stars Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Evan Peters, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Lucas Till, and Lana Candor.
