Remember that Doctor Strange casting rumor we shared last night?  Buried right in the middle of the original report was another interesting bit of news; Tom Hardy “has recently been courted” for the title role in X-Men: Apocalypse, En Sabah Nur, the guy manipulating the pyramid in the X-Men: Days of Future Past post-credit scene.

On top of that, Warner Bros. is also going after Hardy for a role in the Suicide Squad movie, and apparently he’s close to signing on for that one.  Hit the jump for more on what Hardy may be jumping into next.

We’re going back to The Wrap for this one.  The entire article is about the supposed frontrunners for Doctor Strange, but towards the end of the piece, we get this:

“Tom Hardy was once rumored to be in contention for 'Doctor Strange,' though he has recently been courted for WB's 'Suicide Squad' and the title role in 'X-Men: Apocalypse,' so don't expect to see him join the MCU anytime soon.”

With all the casting gossip going down right now, it’s tough to take anything seriously, let alone something that gets a mere sentence in an article about a completely different movie.  Perhaps Bryan Singer and 20th Century Fox did express interest in Hardy, but does that necessarily mean he’s the only one in contention?  No.  Also, who’s to say he didn’t pass already, especially if he really is closing to committing to Suicide Squad?

You know the drill; nothing is said and done until an official announcement is made.  But in the meantime, here are select details on Apocalypse courtesy of Marvel.com:

In the harsh, unforgiving desert of ancient Egypt, ruled by Rama-Tut, a band of nomadic raiders found an infant, gray-skinned and freakish in appearance, abandoned by the settlers of Akkaba. The nomads took the child for their own, giving him the name En Sabah Nur, “The First One,” and teaching him to be "strong" in order to survive the desert as a child.

In recent years, Apocalypse was somehow awakened by the arrival of Cyclops’ son from the future, Cable. Apocalypse made another move against Cyclops and his team, X-Factor, by pitting them against a team of his own creation, the Alliance of Evil. Although he never used his Alliance again, Apocalypse soon formed the Horsemen of Apocalypse to plague humankind, when his ideas to "cull" humanity in order for the rise of mutant supremacy were beginning.
