As we reported recently, if you’re going to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens (who am I fooling — when you go see it), you’ll also get to see the first X-Men: Apocalypse trailer on the big screen. In the meantime, you can watch the first footage below, featuring old favorites and as well as some new mutants. According to writer and producer Simon Kinberg, Apocalypse will serve as the culmination of a trilogy for the main cast introduced in First Class, but there’s still plenty of story to explore.

Not long ago,we found out that the film will include Quicksilver on the search for his father, and will feature an evenbigger, better speedster sequence that took the crew 22 days to shoot.

This is an incredibly well-made debut trailer that hits all the right beats, at least for those who have accepted that Singer's view of the X-Men is more along the lines of the animated TV series rather than the old-school comics, which is fine for me, because I got into X-Men because of the TV show.  The action on display looks epic, and it's cool to see Mystique pushed into a leadership role that really takes advantage of a new timeline where she's not a villain.  There are plenty of cool shots in this trailer, nice little beats, and I'm hoping it all comes together for a film that won't only be good the first time, but also, unlike Days of Future Past, stays strong on repeat viewings.

Check out the trailer below.

In Apocalypse, James McAvoyreturns as Professor X, alongsideJennifer Lawrenceas Mystique,Michael Fassbenderas Magneto, Nicholas Houltas Beast,Evan Petersas Quicksilver, Rose Byrneas Moira MacTaggert, andLucas Tillas Havok. The newest additions to the mutant menagerie also includeTye Sheridanas Cyclops,Olivia Munnas Psylocke,Alexandra Shippas Storm,Sophie Turneras Jean Grey,Ben Hardyas Angel, andLana Condoras Jubilee. Star Wars’Oscar Isaac will feature as the film’s title antagonist, the ancient and invincible Apocalypse.

Here's the official synopsis for X-Men: Apocalypse, which will land in theaters May 27th, 2016:

Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
