Director Bryan Singer (X-Men) has added yet another returning star in the jam-packed cast for his upcoming comic book film X-Men: Days of Future Past. Reports have Halle Berry confirmed to return as the white-haired, weather-manipulating mutant, and joins a cast already composed of many other X-Men alumni. The actress will be starring alongside other big names such as James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page and Peter Dinklage when the film opens July 18, 2014. Deadline reports that Berry will indeed return to reprise her role as Storm in Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. Although Berry had never stated that she was in fact looking to return, it had been previously reported that the star was “90% confident” that she would reprise her role in the X-Men film. That story turned out be correct when she confirmed in an interview with Blacktreetv that Storm would in fact return, albeit in an unknown capacity. Also, earlier today Bryan Singer took to Twitter, a favorite of his for breaking production and casting news for the film, to state:
“Couldn’t be more excited that #HalleBerry has joined the cast of #XMen#DaysofFuturePast. Hopefully she can improve the weather in Montreal.”
The film was never short on star power, but getting Halle Berry back to play Storm should prove to be a great benefit to Singer, considering that the actress is a tremendous talent and that the character proves to be just as popular as ever in the current comics. The new film is based off the comic book storyline Days of Future Past by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, and involves an adult Kitty Pryde transferring her consciousness to her younger self in the present day to prevent an apocalyptic anti-mutant future. The storyline may be too far-fetched for a movie, but the time travel aspect will allow Singer to juggle both timelines and casts, even if they never cross paths. Check back for an interview we conducted with the actress concerning her role in the film.
