20th Century Fox has released an X-Men: Days of Future Past – Rogue Cut clip online. This extended edition of the movie includes a new subplot that features Rogue (Anna Paquin), Magneto (Ian McKellen), and Professor X (Patrick Stewart). Director Bryan Singer said he cut the subplot because “the sequence became extraneous.”

What makes this clip fascinating isn’t Rogue being rescued by Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) and Magneto; it’s the crosscutting between that event and young Magneto (Michael Fassbender) retrieving his helmet, which is in the final film. However, Magneto’s helmet retrieval (arguably another extraneous scene) has been extended to have him notice that the government also recovered the Nazi coin he pushed through Shaw's head in X-Men: First Class. It’s a minor thing, but watching the editing of this scene, especially the close-ups of the faces, makes me think (or at least hope) we’re missing a lot of context on why Singer and editor John Ottman made these choices.

Check out the X-Men: Days of Future Past – Rogue Cut clip below. The film will have a preview screening at Comic-Con before being released on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD on July 14th.
