X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Secret Characters and Plot Possibly Revealed

     July 15, 2013

I almost feel a little bad for 20th Century Fox because early news could be taking the wind out of their big panel.  They kept it completely under wraps in the program guide, but then there was word that X-Force could be announced, THR basically confirmed that The Wolverine and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes would be on the panel, everyone is going to be expecting something Predator related (although that’s intentional on Fox’s part), and now their announcement plans for X-Men: Days of Future Past have also probably been leaked.  Like I said, I almost feel bad for the studio, but ultimately this is all marketing and the fans in Hall H are going to be enthusiastic unless you drop the ball in a big way.  Also, not everyone in the room reads sites like ours, and you are under no obligation to find out what the studio is planning to reveal about Days of Future Past.

If, on the other hand, you’re interested in something that will be revealed in due time whether you’re at Comic-Con or not, hit the jump to learn about secret characters and possibly the plot for X-Men: Days of Future Past.  The film opens on May 23, 2014.

peter-dinklage-bryan-singer-x-men-days-of-future-pastVulture confirms what many already expected when it came to Peter Dinklage‘s character.  The Game of Thrones star is set to play Bolivar Trask, creator of the sentinels, giant robots programmed to hunt down and exterminate mutants.  A more surprising reveal is that Josh Helman (The Pacific) is set to play a young Bill Stryker.  As you may recall, William Stryker was the rabid anti-mutant soldier played by Brian Cox in X2, and was even briefly referenced by name in X-Men: First Class.

As for how Days of Future Past relates to Chris Claremont‘s comic of the same name, Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) will still play a key role, but in a different capacity.  In the 1981 comic, Kitty lives in a post-apocalyptic world run by the sentinels and mutants have almost been completely eradicated.  With the help of a few other mutants, she sends her consciousness back in time to her younger self so she can warn the X-Men of an assassination attempt that will trigger the creation of the sentinels.

[Warning: Potential Spoilers]

x-men-days-of-future-past-hugh-jackman-nicholas-houltAccording to Vulture, Singer takes Kitty Pryde’s power but uses to send Wolverine back into the past where he’ll encounter the First Class mutants.  “However,” Vulture continues, “something bad happens to Kitty during the time-travel trance, and while Wolverine is still under her spell, the other X-Men must race to find a mutant who can siphon Kitty’s powers and bring their friend back to the future. Could that be the plot development that brings Anna Paquin’s power-copying Rogue into the fold once again?”

There are still plenty of questions regarding Days of Future Past like how Singer is planning to bring back old Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and how the story plans to squeeze in so many mutants (earlier today we got our first look at Lucas Till reprising his role as Havoc), so we’ll see what will be revealed when the movie has its panel on Saturday in Hall H.

They brought back professor in X3. During the movie they said that Charles had a (twin) brother that had been in a coma for a number of years. They also said that Charles could transfer his mind into the body of another person. And at the end credits you can see Patrick Stewart waking out of a coma.

PS: They never showed Cyclops die on camera.
PPS: Jean is the Phoenix and can always return from death.
PPPS: They showed magneto getting his powers back so the mutants losing their abilities was not permanent.

I don’t remember the details of Last Stand, but I thought the body that Xavier’s consciousness jumped into in the after-credits scene was just some random dude referenced earlier in the movie by Xavier when he was speaking about mind-transfer? Perhaps I should check out the movie again? :)

        your brain is remebering correctly

        Thanks. :)

Okay, the speculation now is: how do they bring back Patrick Stewart for this? The easy way would be to have him appear as a vision or astral projection. Perhaps, after the events of Last Stand, the X-Men have simply been regularly communing with Charles through Kitty, who mind-melds or does whatever with the comatose dude who became host to Charles’ consciousness. This starts to establish early on in the movie how Kitty will send Wolverine’s consciousness into his past self living in the First Class era.

As for Jean, Cyclops and older Magneto, from what we know thus far, they don’t appear in Days of Future Past, and so their arcs/fates don’t factor in to this coming movie’s plot.

If you cant tell that its him, Patrick Stewart confirmed that he was in the hospital bed and Olivia Williams confirmed that she shot the scene with Patrick Stewart. What else needs to be said?

You remember correctly, and no… There’s no need to check out X3 again. Hopefully, Days of Future Past will erase all events from that movie. And X-Men Origins: Wolverine too.

  • 80sRobot

So to clarify, this could mean that Kitty Pryde in the future uses her power to send future Wolverine’s consciousness back in time to the younger version of Wolvie who had the cameo appearance in First Class.

    • Al Conyado

Would this also explain his loss of memory in Xmen 1 (the singer version), I mean they’re messing with his mind.

      • pro346

The memory loss was explained in xmen origins wolverine wasn’t it? Watch the ending again.

      • Aorta

Adamantium mind bullets. I wouldn’t mind if they took another crack at that one.

we dont know what else fox will announce at comic con. maybe the surprise they keep talking about is something to do with fantastic four?

i didn’t think they were even gonna try and make this canonical with all the previous X-Men movies. weren’t they ignoring X3 and Origins?

  • LEM

I guarantee some suit will make them change X-FORCE to some other name because “it will be too confusing to the public”.

  • Let The Wookie Win

I wonder if they’ll use any feature blending makeup for Fassbender/McKellen and McAvoy/Stewart ala Looper.

  • mike_thoms

I’m just guessing that sending Wolverine back in time messes with the timeline, erasing all the garbage from X3 and bingo bango Xavier is alive, as is Scott maybe?

  • this guy

Still……..how the fuck do you have an x-men movie without Scott Summers aka Cyclops? I mean who’s Wolverine going to be a dick to now?

  • Neven

I’ve never been much of an X-Men fan (I enjoyed First Class quite a bit), but I’m really hyped for this. Plot sounds amazing and I really hope they do it right.
