The  X-Men: First Class DVD/Blu-ray sees release very soon on September 9.  To sell a few a more copies, Fox released a behind-the-scenes featurette that details the seven-hour process it takes to transform Jennifer Lawrence from naked to Mystique.  I can’t say I loved the way the makeup looked on film, but I appreciate the effort to achieve the mutant look with practical effects over CGI.

Watch the featurette after the jump to see Ms. Lawrence be a real trooper.

And the official synopsis:

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, following the classic Marvel mythology, charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men. The film also stars Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, January Jones, Nicholas Hoult, Oliver Platt, Jason Flemyng, Lucas Till, Edi Gathegi, and Kevin Bacon. The screenplay is by Ashley Edward Miller & Zack Stentz and Jane Goldman & Matthew Vaughn.

Wow, Sept 9th. That’s barely a three months since the theatrical release.

Also surprised you guys haven’t posted a story yet about new close up shots of the Man of Steel suit.

“It’s like a sleepover… except I’m naked and being painted.”

Sounds like every sleepover I’ve ever been to. Me and the boys had so much fun…

This comment, “I can’t say I loved the way the makeup looked on film…” is the reason I am almost done completely with ever reading these shitty movie blogs.
And someone has spent a lot of time and money getting Collider into internet blog prominence.
But I am sick of reading someone’s fucking comments on something and having the comment stick with me while I am watching the film – which it now will.
I thought the same thing, too; but, hell with it. Movies aren’t perfect. Collider’s friend site, /Film is just as irritating. Hell, their writers write irritating remarks in the headline SIMPLY to start debates which gets commenters on which gets the advertising money to continually role in.
But eventually that tactic backfires. AICN is a dinosaur on its last breath(s). People get tired and move on.
And while I’m ranting, I find it incredulous that, typically on this very site, one article will be a review of a film that one of the staff has panned followed by a junket interview with the cast one how excited the cast is for the movie geeks who supposedly frequent this site to see their work on the film.
Someone from the studios has to read these boards and wonder – I guess just for a fleeting moment – if it’s actually worth having their casts and crews interviewed by Collider. Is it?
And from yet another perspective regarding the importance of these new, well-funded movie “blogs” (which, in truth, are usually just sites with a staff regurgitating simple casting news, etc. *procured* from actual news blogs but with a geek perspective which turns out to be more and more continually cynical and hard-to-please, i.e., “I can’t say I loved the way the makeup looked on film) is that they trump up films that end up going straight to obscurity. How many articles were there for Fight Night or Conan? Evidently, Collider and /Film really had NO effect on the box office or even actual interest from the real world movie-goers.
My favorite tell that this site is irritating from the reviews to what’s picked to be blogged about in terms of production status to interviews is when “Frosty” interviewed Cate Blanchett during the Hanna press-junket and spent a few moments asking her, all in good-geekery jest, of course, about how much preparation she did for her cameo in Hot Fuzz and the video was loading slowly on the computer I was viewing that on and, though masked by good-natured forced laughter, I could actually see her looking mildly irritated by those questions especially considering she has only a certain amount of time and is trying to raise awareness for a rather small action film she was a part of. So, of course she was professional – probably never complained about that to anyone after the interview, but Frosty showed how fucking green he is when it comes to interviewing someone of her caliber – or just plain asinine.
I digress on my ultimate point; rather, it’s this: people from studios doing advertising have to be reading some of these comment boards – do you guys ever have doubts if it’s worth *wasting* time with these “geek”-oriented sites? Your product is usually disparaged in some way and on top of that, I don’t see how any real interest was generated with pushing your cast and crew through these stupid interviews?
(Okay, so I should save my rant about interviews for when Frosty actually posts them. I apologize, but now’s as good a time as any.)

I’ll agree with u on a few points – it is annoying that “film buffs” are becoming so cynical about movies, but sometimes (probably only when I agree) it’s great to be a part of a community that rips on a movie like Avatar, which other people love. I know a bit off topic, but I was SO bored in that movie and really couldn’t believe how predictable the plot was… but I walked out and all my friends were like ‘that was the most amazing thing ever’, and I came to Collider and didn’t feel so alone with my views. Although that didn’t happen when I left Inception being underwhelmed.

But I disagree with one point – I’m a fan of giving smaller, lesser known titles some publicity & I find, at the same time, Collider give a lot of coverage to mainstream movies and movies “geeks” wouldn’t even care about… I remember there were so many articles about Sex & the City 2 before it came out.

And yeah, it’s annoying that Frosty sucks up to everyone he interviews but if you met a celebrity, you’d probably act the same way.

      • Tarek

I’ll take Avatar any day of the week over the so praised Watch men ( the naked smurf with the futuristic village people).

    • potterboy

hey, don’t knock Frosty… i’m with you on complaining about the cynicism now in movies. it shouldn’t be like that. but Frosty is the kind of guy who’s always optimistic, even when he’s not facing an interviewer.

like the For Your Consideration podcast where he told he was optimistic about Three Musketeers(until he saw the trailer), but it just shows you that he really wishes for upcoming movies to be good. others would diss the movie in pre-prod just because it’s made by Paul WS Anderson.

there really is one ultimate cynic person on this site. and alot of collider readers know who it is. just by reading the first paragraph, it’s apparent who wrote it.

    • The Train!

i can’t live in a world where people express their opinions…

    • Tarek

Matt Goldberg is maybe cynical as you said ( which is not a bad thing), but at least he expresses “his opinion” honestly.

It is clear that we all have different expectations for what would be a good movie. Some will even say that Michael Bay is a good director. But we must be wise and forgive them their lack of discernment, because they were fed by video games since kindergarten.

I come to Collider to read news on films of course, but more importantly to be able to find comments that do not scratch Hollywood’s back systematically.

hello, welcome to http://www.abcneed. com,i hope everyone will more like them because of there have more nice top goods and cheaper price in there, thanks

Wow. Collider, at one point, was my favorite website. Now the only word that describes this site and its writers is this: classless. For some reason the writers of this site have formed a mandate to include not only the main theme of the article, but to also add their own petty, insignificant opinions on the subject themselves. Who in the HELL cares what you think? For this article, you basically have just said “The make-up job on Mystique in this movie was pretty shitty in my opinion, but here is a video showing all the work that went into it by industry professionals.” Like I said….classless.

  • Sara

i agree ” I can’t say I loved the way the makeup looked on film, but I appreciate the effort to make her achieve the mutant look with practical effects over CGI.”
I preferred the makeup of the previous films.
Brendan is just giving a opnion. What’s wrong with that. And I agree… in this one.

  • Tarek

People here cannot endure any comment or pov that is diverging from their opinions.

when it sucks, it sucks. ^^

Back on topic: yay Jennifer Lawrence naked!
