‘X-Men’ TV Series In the Works at FOX from ‘Burn Notice’ Creator Matt Nix

You get a superhero show! And you get a superhero show! And you get a superhero show! Now that superhero cinema is firmly entrenched as the big business model in movie theaters, the industry is going full Oprah on comic book TV programming. Gotham, Agents of SHIELD, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, The Flash, Arrow…my god, there be superheroes a plenty. But if you’ve been craving a weekly dose of mutant action, today brings good news.

FOX is getting into the X-Men business with a new action-adventure series from Burn Notice creator Matt Nix. The network has given a put pilot commitment to the untitled superhero series, which will follow “two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.”

20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television will co-produce the series with 20th handling physical production. Nix will executive produce alongside the cinematic X-Men producers, Bryan Singer, Simon Kinberg, and Lauren Schuler Donner, as well as Marvel’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.

“Developing a Marvel property has been a top priority for the network — and we are so pleased with how Matt Nix has led us into this thrilling universe,” said David Madden, president, entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “There’s comic book adventure, emotional and complicated relationships and a rich, existing mythology from which to draw. With the brilliant production crew behind this project, it has all the makings of a big, fun and exciting new series.”

Loeb, who heads up Marvel TV, added: “Marvel Television is thrilled to be co-producing with 20th Century Fox Television on our first project. Matt’s a huge fan of ‘X-Men’ and his take on ‘X-Men,’ with its rich characters and high-stakes adventure, is exactly the show we want on Fox. It’s a great team of creative producers who will be making something entirely unique.”

The news comes a year after FOX announced their first planned Marvel series, Hellfire, which fell off the docket when showrunners Evan Katz and Manny Coto dropped off to shepherd 24: Legacy. The report confirms that Hellfire is no longer moving forward. Meanwhile, FOX’s sister network FX is moving forward with Noah Hawley‘s spin on Legion, while Cloak and Dager is currently in the works at Freeform. Superhero shows for everybody!

The UNTITLED FOX MARVEL PROJECT will focus on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive. The series will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television, with 20th Century Fox handling physical production.

Lauren Shuler Donner (“X-Men: Apocalypse,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “The Wolverine”), Bryan Singer (“X-Men: Apocalypse,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past”), Simon Kinberg (“X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “Fantastic Four”), Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones”) and Jim Chory (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones”) serve as executive producers.
