Don’t know who E.L. Katz is?  It’s probably because you haven’t seen the movie Cheap Thrills and if that’s the case, you’re missing out on one of the best horror movies of the year.  The film didn’t get much of a theatrical run, but apparently someone noticed Katz is top-notch talent because he just scored a new directing gig, a comedy thriller called You’ll Be the Death of Me.

Lionsgate and Mandeville Films are behind the endeavor with Two Night Stand’s Mark Hammer set to pen the script.  Hit the jump for more on You’ll Be the Death of Me and to check out what Katz is capable of.

According to THR, You’ll Be the Death of Me is about two single New Yorkers and follows what happens when “a masked knife-wielding psychopath” complicates their budding romance.  Considering what goes down in Cheap Thrills, Lionsgate and Mandeville really couldn’t have found a better director for this film.  The plots aren’t all that similar, but after seeing how Katz handles the relationships amidst an insanely violent situation in Cheap Thrills, there’s no doubt he’ll make the most of this scenario.

Clearly I think Cheap Thrills is a must-see, but it’s also well worth checking out ABCs of Death 2 for Katz’s piece alone.  “A is for Amateur” is easily one of the best segments of the anthology and further proves Katz has a knack for fresh, clever storytelling.  You’re going to want to keep an eye on this guy.  Need proof?  Here’s a favorite clip from Cheap Thrills:
