With a release date merely seven months away, producers felt it might be beneficial to have someone write the script for Paranormal Activity 4. Heat Vision reports that Zack Estrin has closed a deal to write the fourth installment of the lucrative found footage franchise. Estrin seems an obvious choice, as he currently serves as a writer-executive producer on the ABC series The River, which is also executive produced by Paranormal Activity producer Jason Blum and the franchise creator Oren Peli. Estrin also worked on Fox’s Prison Break and ABC’s No Ordinary Family. Paranormal Activity 3 directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman are expected to return for the fourth installment, but plot details are being kept under wraps (though I assume it’ll be “scary”).

Paranormal Activity 3 was written by Disturbia scribe Christopher Landon, who also worked on the second film (the first film was written by Peli). Though Estrin has no experience with the franchise, The River is a found footage television series so he has experience writing camera movements and jump scares.

What they need to do with the fourth film is just forget that the last 20 minutes or so of the last film never happened. That was one of the worst “twists” in any movie I’ve ever seen.

Not saying that the movies are “scary” in any way, but they’re good entertainment and actually pretty funny.

The problem with many people who are quick to judge this series of movies is that they do not “let” themselves be scared. Of course it’s a movie! However, when you’re at the movie theater and you’re on the edge of your seat in a room of people who actually DON’T talk in a movie theater, you’re easily entertained.
Funny? Sure, some parts. Again, if you don’t let yourself be scared, then I guess you can call it funny.
As for the last twenty minutes of PA3, it’s an old-school route that hasn’t been done well in a long time. The last two movies made sense after watching the ending to PA3. I think it could have been done a bit better, but all the paranormal activity movie endings have made people say “wow this sucks” because in today’s era of horror movies, people WANT that ending that explains everything.
Heck, I remember being in the movies watching The Blair Witch Project and was laughing when everyone was crying and moaning about the ending!
Point being: If you don’t let yourself be scared or just plain hate horror movies then don’t go see it. At the least, try to make a valid point about why you do not like the movies without saying “it sucks” and moaning about it.
