zoolander-2-trailer

The new trailer for Paramount Pictures ridiculously good-looking Zoolander 2, or 2oolander, per the trailers, has dropped and things look to be about the same as when we left them. It's been a little over 14 years since we last saw the titular male-model, played by Ben Stiller, who served as director of the 2001 sensation and has returned to helm the sequel, serving as his official follow-up to The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. The trailer is a blunt reminder that Stiller is best when he goes for broad or dark comedy, rather than the not-so-simple balancing act needed to pull off something as introspective as The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and he looks to be back in fine form with the hugely anticipated sequel

Check out the new trailer for Zoolander 2 below:

It's nice to see Stiller reteaming with Kristen Wiig, who was one of the few highlights of Stiller's last film, who here plays Alexanya Atoz, a big-time fashion mogul done-up like something someone might see in Terry Gilliam's Brazil. Among other welcome newcomers is Benedict Cumberbatch as All, an androgynous super model who one-ups Zoolander and Hansel (Owen Wilson) at a runway show, as well as Penelope Cruz as Montana Grosso, a secret agent who needs Hansel and Zoolander's help to track down a group that is killing off beautiful people, such as Justin Bieber.

Even more heartening is seeing Will Ferrell returning to play Zoolander's main villain, Mugatu, who has two of the trailer's best visual gags; Christine Taylor and Billy Zane are also going to returning for the sequel, though I imagine the latter will have a smaller role. Fred Armisen, Kanye West, and Olivia Munn are also set to appear in the film, which points to a continuation of the original film's crucial satire and indulgence of the cult of celebrity. Whether or not the prods at fame, aesthetic perfection, and general ineptitude will be as guffaw-producing as the first film is yet to be seen, but from the looks of what's on display here, it's at least smart enough to not look or act too smart.

Here's the super-informative official synopsis for Zoolander 2:

3% Body Fat. 1% Brain Activity.
