One of the feature TIFF films that I’m most looking forward to seeing is Love is All You Need director Susanne Bier’s thriller A Second Chance.  Last month we posted the trailer which was gripping, tense and dour (in a good way).  As I said then, this project looks like a little bit of a twist on Gone Baby Gone (also a good thing) in that it explores thematic elements that could be seen as a counterpoint to that film.  Now we have a series of five clips, totaling eight minutes of the film, that flesh about the characters a bit.

The film was written by frequent Bier collaborator Anders Thomas Jensen and stars Jamie Lannister himself,  Nikolaj Coster-WaldauUlrich Thomsen, Maria Bonnevie, Nikolaj Lie Kaas and Lykke May Andersen also appear.  Hit the jump to check out the A Second Chance clips.  We also have new images from the film.  A Second Chance will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9th.

Here’s the official synopsis for A Second Chance followed by the clips and images:

Detectives and best friends Andreas and Simon lead vastly different lives; Andreas has settled down with his beautiful wife and son; while Simon, recently divorced, spends most of his waking hours getting drunk at the local strip club. But all that changes when the two of them are called out to a domestic dispute between a junkie couple, caught in a vicious cycle of violence and drugs. It all looks very routine – until Andreas finds the couple’s infant son, crying in a closet. The usually collected policeman finds himself confronted with his own powerlessness and is shaken to his core. As Andreas slowly loses his grip on justice, it suddenly becomes up to the unruly Simon to restore the balance between right and wrong. A Second Chance is a shocking, moving and thrilling drama about real people forced into incredible circumstances.
