One of the many films to premiere at this year’s SXSW was Adrien Brody’s documentary Stone Barn Castle. He made the film with Kevin Ford and it follows Brody as he attempts to remodel a dilapidated stone barn in upstate New York that’s reminiscent of an old European castle. The project took seven years, beginning just after Brody shot The Brothers Bloom and found himself in a state of uneasiness, and he filmed it under the radar.

Shortly before the world premiere I sat down with Brody for an extended video interview. He talked about rebuilding the house, the location, what inspired him to take on the project, contributing music to the film, how and why he kept Stone Barn Castle under wraps, Lee Tamahori’s next film, Emperor, his experience of making The Pianist and working with Roman Polanski, and a lot more.
